Venom, also called theVenom Symbiote, is a character fromMarvel Comics. He's aSymbiote, an alien lifeform capable of infusing itself with its host body. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that new dual lifeform refers to itself as Venom.

Venom was created by Todd McFarlane and David Michelinie.

Background[]

Personality[]

Venom is an emotionless being that has an aggressive nature. Its personality changes depending on who it is bonded to, though it stays with distilled aggression.

Physical appearance[]

Venom has a very muscular, black (sometimes blue) body that resembles the Symbiote he originated from. He has white eyes with no pupils, sharp yellow teeth, and a long tongue. Except for the teeth, tongue, and black and white color-scheme, he resembles Spider-Man's. Venom is also capable of shapeshifting into a gooey, almost liquid-like form, and can sprout tentacles for combat purposes.

Weaknesses[]

The Symbiote is extremely sensitive to sound & heat. Sound waves can separate the Symbiote from the host. Electricity can also weaken the Symbiote.

Appearances[]

Spider-Man: No Way Home[]

The Eddie Brock and Venom of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), portrayed by Tom Hardy, appear in the film's mid-credits scene. In their native reality, as depicted in the SSU filmVenom: Let There Be Carnage, the duo goes into hiding in Mexico. Venom explains to Eddie that symbiotes share a hive mind across the multiverse and proceeds to share a fragment of the hive mind's multiversal knowledge, including the knowledge ofPeter Parker's identity as Spider-Man. As a result, they are teleported to a resort room in Mexico in theMarvel Cinematic Universe due toDoctor Strange's botched spell, where they watchJ. Jonah Jameson expose Peter's identity as Spider-Man on television thanks toMysterio.

Leaving their hotel room, the pair visit the bar and learn aboutThanos, the Avengers, and the Blip as they converse with a bartender. Brock considers going to New York to meet Spider-Man, but the duo is soon teleported back to the SSU after Strange launches a new spell to fix the multiversal crisis. However, they unknowingly leave a piece of the symbiote behind.

The iteration of Eddie Brock and Venom that appeared in the non-MCU filmSpider-Man 3 is mentioned inSpider-Man: No Way Home by theFriendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, played byTobey Maguire.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, Venom is a symbiote from an alien planet, but in the originalUltimate comics, Venom was an artificial lifeform created by Dr. Richard Parker, Peter's father, in an attempt to cure incurable terminal illnesses, namely cancer.
  • Venom made his first big screen debut in the third film ofSam Raimi'sSpider-Man trilogy portrayed byTopher Grace, but originally Sam wanted to addVulture in the film, but was added by a request from producer Avi Arad. But as a result, Venom portrayed in the movie was poorly received by fans, for not making the character bigger and bulky like in the comics. This version is mentioned inNo Way Home by the Raimi version of Peter Parker and is the only villain from the trilogy to not return in the latter film.
  • The Venom who appears in the mid-credits scene inSpider-Man: No Way Home is the main character of the2018 live-actionVenom film, its2021 sequel filmVenom: Let There Be Carnage and its2024 sequelVenom: The Last Dance, starringTom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. Those are Sony productions with no involvement from Disney, but this version of Venom is briefly transported to theMarvel Cinematic Universe as shown inLet There Be Carnage andNo Way Home.
