Say It With a Slap is a song from theBongo segment, inFun and Fancy Free. It is first sung during the part where a sad Bongo looks at and hears the bears showing their interests of love through slaps. It is sung again towards the end of the segment when Bongo reunites withLulubelle after escaping fromLumpjaw across the forest, finally getting the chance to meet his love interest.

Lyrics[]

The King's Men: When a bird loves a bird, he can twitter
When a puppy falls in love, he can yap
Every pigeon likes to coo when he says "I love you"
But a bear likes to say it with a slap (slap! slap!)
Dinah Shore: When a whippoorwill's in love, he can whipper
All the horses neck and all the turtles snap
Every deer and every dove has a way of makin' love
But a bear likes to say it with a slap (slap! slap!)

The King's Men: You can ask any bear, oh, there's nothin' to compare
With a love tap strong or weak
Dinah Shore: So if you're ready for romance
And you ever get the chance
The King's Men: Grab your girl (Lumpjaw: Duh!)
Dinah Shore: Give her your cheek

So when love comes along, don't be silly (The King's Men: Do-do-do-doop!)
Never ever waste your time like a sap (The King's Men: Do-do-do-doop!)
Dinah Shore and the King's Men: Let the others hug and kiss
But the bare facts are this:
That a bear likes to say it with a slap
Slap, slap
The King's Men: Give me a love tap

Square dance caller: Grab your bears and swing 'em wide
Shake their fur and scratch their hide
Give her a slap, give her a cuff
Go 'round that floor and strut your stuff
Yahoo!
He slapped her once and he missed her jaw
And he wound up smackin' his mother-in-law
Now here comes grandpa gettin' in line
And here comes baby bear behind
Woohoo!

Dinah Shore and The King's Men: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...

(Dinah yodels underneath)
The King's Men: When a bird loves a bird, he can twitter
When a puppy falls in love, he can yap
Every pigeon likes to coo when he says "I love you"
But a bear likes to say it with a slap (slap, slap)
When a whippoorwill's in love, he can whipper
All the horses neck and all the turtles snap
Every deer and every dove has a way of makin' love
But a bear likes to say it with a slap (slap, slap)

(The song gets faster)
You can ask any bear, oh, there's nothin' to compare
With a love tap strong or weak
If you're ready for romance
And you ever get the chance
Grab your girl
Give her your cheek

So when love comes along, don't be silly

Let the others hug and kiss
But the bare facts are this:

Slap, slap

Trivia[]

  • Despite the movie itself being seemingly innocent, as well as receiving a G rating by MPAA, the lyric in this song “ Every deer and every dove has a way of makin' love” is considered suggestively inappropriate in today’s standards and is not used in children’s media today. Back then, "making love" simply just referred to a public display of affection. This is one of the few reasonsThe Walt Disney Company did not reissue the lone version ofBongo on DVD, despite releasing it withMickey and the Beanstalk in the originalFun and Fancy Free format on such in 2014.
