Theodore Edward Cantor, auchTheodor Edvard Cantor (*1809 inKopenhagen; †1860^[1][2] inIndien) war ein dänischerMediziner,Zoologe undBotaniker. Sein offiziellesbotanisches Autorenkürzel lautet „Cantor“.

Theodore Edward Cantor machte 1833 inHalle seinen Abschluss als Doktor der Medizin. Von 1835 bis 1839 diente er als Arzt imBengal Medical Service. Er sammelte Pflanzen auf derMalaiischen Halbinsel und inChina. Von Cantor stammt beispielsweise dieErstbeschreibung derKönigskobra, desRundschwanzmakropoden und desMaulbrütenden Kampffischs.

William Munro benannte ihm zu Ehren 1868 die ArtBambusa cantori aus der PflanzengattungBambusa.

John Edward Gray benannte 1864 die Schildkröten-ArtPelochelys cantorii nach ihm. Im Deutschen Sprachraum ist sie alsCantors Riesen-Weichschildkröte bekannt.^[3][4]
