La portada del disco fue realizada por The Designers Republic y el arte del disco contó con la colaboración de Chris Cunningham. Como consta de un solo color uniforme, un sticker con el nombre de la banda y el título se agregó a la portada. In contrast to the duo's previous albums, Incunabula (1993) and Amber (1994), Tri Repetae features a distinct style that incorporates more minimal, repetitive rhythmic patterns and intricate, spacious melodic arrays. This is echoed in its album cover, which consists of only a single shade of beige. The album was rereleased on March 16, 1996 by Wax Trax! Records and TVT Records in the United States as a two-disc set named Tri Repetae++, which included the Garbage and Anvil Vapre EPs constituting the second CD. In Japan, it was released with the bonus track "Medrey". Stemming from Autechre's increasing preoccupation with textures and glitches, the liner notes of the album mention a preference to listen to the album on vinyl for surface noise. The CD version states that the album is "incomplete without surface noise", whereas the vinyl version states that it is "complete with surface noise". (en)

È composto da dieci tracce inedite (undici nella versione giapponese). Mentre negli Stati Uniti è stato pubblicato come Tri Repetae++, avendo un secondo CD con 8 tracce già pubblicate nel 1995 negli EP Anvil Vapre e Garbage. La copertina è stata realizzata dallo studio grafico The Designers Republic, che già avevano realizzato la copertina di Amber, e rappresenta uno sfondo marrone. All'interno vi è una scritta che consiglia di ascoltare l'album in vinile in quanto il suono in questo modo diviene "completo con i suoni superficiali". (it)
