In 1528 five boats were constructed by Pánfilo de Narváez in the bay. It is named for the Apalachee tribe which lived between the Aucilla and Ochlockonee rivers until the 18th century. - La bahía Apalache (del inglés: Apalachee Bay) es un brazo del golfo de México que ocupa un saliente de la costa de Florida en el Oeste, donde la península de Florida se une con el resto del continente. El litoral de la bahía pertenece a los condados de Taylor, Jefferson, Wakulla y Franklin. Los ríos Aucilla, Econfina, Saint Marks y Ochlocknee desembocan en la bahía. La bahía se llama así en honor a la tribu nativa de los apalaches, que vivió entre los río Aucilla y Ochlocknee hasta el siglo XVIII. Zatoka graniczy z czterema hrabstwami stanu Floryda: Taylor, Jefferson, Wakulla i Franklin. Średnia głębokość zatoki wynosi od 1,8 do 6,1 m. Do zatoki wpływają cztery rzeki: Ochlockonee, , i Aucilla. Dno zatoki wyróżnia się bujną wegetacją roślinną i ocenia się że jest to obszar o największej gęstości trawy morskiej na półkuli północnej. Nazwa zatoki pochodzi od Apalaków (ang. Apalachee), plemienia rdzennych Amerykanów zamieszkujących rejon wokół zatoki. W 1528 roku w zatoce hiszpański konkwistador Pánfilo de Narváez zbudował pięć prymitywnych łodzi próbując ratować się ucieczką do Meksyku po nieudanych próbach podboju Florydy. (pl)
