A Prophecy against Zedekiah

1The wordwhich came unto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,when Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon,and all his army,and all the kingdomsof the earthof his dominion,and all the people,foughtagainst Jerusalem,and against all the citiesthereof, saying,2Thus saiththe LORD,the Godof Israel;Goand speakto Zedekiahkingof Judah,and tellhim, Thus saiththe LORD;Behold, I will givethis cityinto the handof the kingof Babylon,and he shall burnit with fire:3And thou shalt not escape outof his hand,but shalt surelybe taken,and deliveredinto his hand;and thine eyesshall beholdthe eyesof the kingof Babylon,and he shall speakwith thee mouthto mouth,and thou shalt goto Babylon.4Yet hearthe wordof the LORD,O Zedekiahkingof Judah;Thus saiththe LORDof thee, Thou shalt not dieby the sword:5[But] thou shalt diein peace:and with the burningsof thy fathers,the formerkingswhich were beforethee, so shall they burn[odours] for thee; and they will lamentthee, [saying], Ahlord!for I have pronouncedthe word,saiththe LORD.

6Then Jeremiahthe prophetspakeall these wordsunto Zedekiahkingof Judahin Jerusalem,7When the kingof Babylon'sarmyfoughtagainst Jerusalem,and against all the citiesof Judahthat were left,against Lachish,and against Azekah:for these defencedcitiesremainedof the citiesof Judah.

8[This is] the wordthat came unto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,afterthat the kingZedekiahhad madea covenantwith all the peoplewhich [were] at Jerusalem,to proclaimlibertyunto them;9That every manshould let his manservant,and every manhis maidservant,[being] an Hebrewor an Hebrewess,gofree;that none should servehimself of them, [to wit], of a Jewhis brother.10Now when all the princes,and all the people,which had enteredinto the covenant,heardthat every oneshould let his manservant,and every onehis maidservant,gofree,that none should servethemselves of them any more, then they obeyed,and let [them] go.11But afterwardthey turned,and caused the servantsand the handmaids,whom they had let gofree,to return,and brought them into subjection{08675;03533:08686} for servantsand for handmaids.

12Therefore the wordof the LORDcame to Jeremiahfrom the LORD,saying,13Thus saiththe LORD,the Godof Israel;I madea covenantwith your fathersin the daythat I brought them forthout of the landof Egypt,out of the houseof bondmen,saying,14At the endof sevenyearslet ye goevery manhis brotheran Hebrew,which hath been soldunto thee; and when he hath servedthee sixyears,thou shalt let him gofreefrom thee: but your fathershearkenednot unto me, neither inclinedtheir ear.15And ye were nowturned,and had donerightin my sight,in proclaiminglibertyevery manto his neighbour;and ye had madea covenantbeforeme in the housewhich is calledby my name:16But ye turnedand pollutedmy name,and caused every manhis servant,and every manhis handmaid,whom ye had setat libertyat their pleasure,to return,and brought them into subjection,to be unto you for servantsand for handmaids.

17Therefore thus saiththe LORD;Ye have not hearkenedunto me, in proclaimingliberty,every oneto his brother,and every manto his neighbour:behold, I proclaima libertyfor you, saiththe LORD,to the sword,to the pestilence,and to the famine;and I will makeyou to be removedinto all the kingdomsof the earth.18And I will givethe menthat have transgressedmy covenant,which have not performedthe wordsof the covenantwhich they had madebeforeme, when they cutthe calfin twain,and passedbetween the partsthereof,19The princesof Judah,and the princesof Jerusalem,the eunuchs,and the priests,and all the peopleof the land,which passedbetween the partsof the calf;20I will even givethem into the handof their enemies,and into the handof them that seektheir life:and their dead bodiesshall be for meatunto the fowlsof the heaven,and to the beastsof the earth.21And Zedekiahkingof Judahand his princeswill I giveinto the handof their enemies,and into the handof them that seektheir life,and into the handof the kingof Babylon'sarmy,which are gone upfrom you.22Behold, I will command,saiththe LORD,and cause them to returnto this city;and they shall fightagainst it, and takeit, and burnit with fire:and I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolationwithout an inhabitant.
