KJV + Strong's Jeremiah Buys Hanamel's Field 1The wordthat came to Jeremiahfrom the LORDin the tenthyearof Zedekiahkingof Judah, which [was] the eighteenthyearof Nebuchadrezzar.2For then the kingof Babylon'sarmybesiegedJerusalem:and Jeremiahthe prophetwas shut upin the courtof the prison, which [was] in the kingof Judah'shouse.3For Zedekiahkingof Judahhad shut him up,saying,Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say,Thus saiththe LORD,Behold, I will givethis cityinto the handof the kingof Babylon, and he shall takeit;4And Zedekiahkingof Judahshall not escapeout of the handof the Chaldeans, but shall surelybe deliveredinto the handof the kingof Babylon, and shall speakwith him mouthto mouth, and his eyesshall beholdhis eyes;5And he shall leadZedekiahto Babylon, and there shall he be until I visithim, saiththe LORD:though ye fightwith the Chaldeans,ye shall not prosper. 6And Jeremiahsaid,The wordof the LORDcame unto me, saying,7Behold, Hanameelthe sonof Shallumthine uncleshall comeunto thee, saying,Buythee my fieldthat [is] in Anathoth:for the rightof redemption[is] thine to buy[it].8So Hanameelmine uncle'ssoncameto me in the courtof the prisonaccording to the wordof the LORD,and saidunto me, Buymy field,I pray thee, that [is] in Anathoth, which [is] in the countryof Benjamin:for the rightof inheritance[is] thine, and the redemption[is] thine; buy[it] for thyself. Then I knewthat this [was] the wordof the LORD. 9And I boughtthe fieldof Hanameelmy uncle'sson, that [was] in Anathoth, and weighedhim the money,[even] seventeenshekelsof silver.10And I subscribedthe evidence, and sealed[it], and tookwitnesses, and weighed[him] the moneyin the balances.11So I tookthe evidenceof the purchase,[both] that which was sealed[according] to the lawand custom, and that which was open:12And I gavethe evidenceof the purchaseunto Baruchthe sonof Neriah, the sonof Maaseiah,in the sightof Hanameelmine uncle's[son], and in the presenceof the witnessesthat subscribedthe bookof the purchase, beforeall the Jewsthat satin the courtof the prison.13And I chargedBaruchbeforethem, saying,14Thus saiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel;Takethese evidences, this evidenceof the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidencewhich is open;and putthem in an earthenvessel, that they may continuemanydays.15For thus saiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel;Housesand fieldsand vineyardsshall be possessed againin this land. Jeremiah's Prayer 16Now whenI had deliveredthe evidenceof the purchaseunto Baruchthe sonof Neriah,I prayedunto the LORD,saying,17AhLordGOD!behold, thou hast madethe heavenand the earthby thy greatpowerand stretched outarm,[and] there is nothingtoo hardfor thee:18Thou shewestlovingkindnessunto thousands, and recompensestthe iniquityof the fathersinto the bosomof their childrenafterthem: the Great, the MightyGod,the LORDof hosts,[is] his name,19Greatin counsel, and mightyin work:for thine eyes[are] openupon all the waysof the sonsof men:to giveevery oneaccording to his ways, and according to the fruitof his doings:20Which hast setsignsand wondersin the landof Egypt,[even] unto this day,and in Israel, and among [other] men;and hast madethee a name,as at this day;21And hast brought forththy peopleIsraelout of the landof Egyptwith signs, and with wonders, and with a stronghand, and with a stretched outarm, and with greatterror;22And hast giventhem this land, which thou didst swearto their fathersto givethem, a landflowingwith milkand honey;23And they came in,and possessedit; but they obeyednot thy voice, neither walkedin thy law;they have donenothing of all that thou commandedstthem to do:therefore thou hast caused all this evilto comeupon them:24Behold the mounts, they are comeunto the cityto takeit; and the cityis giveninto the handof the Chaldeans, that fightagainst it, becauseof the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence:and what thou hast spokenis come to pass; and, behold, thou seest[it].25And thou hast saidunto me, O LordGOD,Buythee the fieldfor money, and takewitnesses;for the cityis giveninto the handof the Chaldeans. Jerusalem's Fall Confirmed 26Then came the wordof the LORDunto Jeremiah,saying,27Behold, I [am] the LORD,the Godof all flesh:is there any thingtoo hardfor me?28Therefore thus saiththe LORD;Behold, I will givethis cityinto the handof the Chaldeans, and into the handof Nebuchadrezzarkingof Babylon, and he shall takeit:29And the Chaldeans, that fightagainst this city, shall comeand setfireon this city, and burnit with the houses, upon whose roofsthey have offered incenseunto Baal, and poured outdrink offeringsunto othergods,to provoke me to anger.30For the childrenof Israeland the childrenof Judahhave only doneevilbeforeme from their youth:for the childrenof Israelhave only provoked me to angerwith the workof their hands, saiththe LORD.31For this cityhath been to me [as] a provocation of mine angerand of my furyfrom the daythat they builtit even unto this day;that I should removeit from before my face,32Because of all the evilof the childrenof Israeland of the childrenof Judah, which they have doneto provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the menof Judah, and the inhabitantsof Jerusalem.33And they have turnedunto me the back, and not the face:though I taughtthem, rising up earlyand teaching[them], yet they have not hearkenedto receiveinstruction.34But they settheir abominationsin the house, which is calledby my name,to defileit.35And they builtthe high placesof Baal, which [are] in the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,to cause their sonsand their daughtersto passthrough [the fire] unto Molech;which I commandedthem not, neither cameit into my mind, that they should dothis abomination,to cause Judahto sin. A Promise of Restoration 36And now therefore thus saiththe LORD,the Godof Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say,It shall be deliveredinto the handof the kingof Babylonby the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;37Behold, I will gather them outof all countries, whither I have driventhem in mine anger, and in my fury, and in greatwrath;and I will bring them againunto this place, and I will cause them to dwellsafely:38And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:39And I will givethem oneheart, and oneway, that they may fearme for ever, for the goodof them, and of their childrenafterthem:40And I will makean everlastingcovenantwith them, that I will not turn awayfrom them,to do them good;but I will putmy fearin their hearts, that they shall not departfrom me.41Yea, I will rejoiceover them to do them good, and I will plantthem in this landassuredlywith my whole heartand with my whole soul.42For thus saiththe LORD;Like as I have broughtall this greatevilupon this people,so will I bringupon them all the goodthat I have promisedthem.43And fieldsshall be boughtin this land, whereof ye say,[It is] desolatewithout manor beast;it is giveninto the handof the Chaldeans.44Men shall buyfieldsfor money, and subscribeevidences, and seal[them], and takewitnessesin the landof Benjamin, and in the places aboutJerusalem, and in the citiesof Judah, and in the citiesof the mountains, and in the citiesof the valley, and in the citiesof the south:for I will cause their captivityto return, saiththe LORD. |
