Law of Divorce
(Matthew 5:31-32;Luke 16:18-18)
1When a manhath takena wife,and marriedher, and it come to pass that she findno favourin his eyes,because he hath foundsomeuncleannessin her: then let him writeher a billof divorcement,and give[it] in her hand,and sendher out of his house.2And when she is departed outof his house,she may goand be anotherman's[wife].3And [if] the latterhusbandhateher, and writeher a billof divorcement,and giveth[it] in her hand,and sendethher out of his house;or if the latterhusbanddie,which tookher [to be] his wife;4Her formerhusband,which sent her away,maynot takeher againto be his wife,afterthat she is defiled;for that [is] abominationbeforethe LORD:and thou shalt not cause the landto sin,which the LORDthy Godgiveththee [for] an inheritance.
5When a manhath takena newwife,he shall not go outto war,neither shall he be chargedwith any business:[but] he shall be freeat homeoneyear,and shall cheer uphis wifewhich he hath taken.
Additional Laws
6No man shall takethe netheror the upper millstoneto pledge:for he taketh[a man's] lifeto pledge.
7If a manbe foundstealinganyof his brethrenof the childrenof Israel,and maketh merchandiseof him, or sellethhim; then that thiefshall die;and thou shalt putevilawayfrom amongyou.
8Take heedin the plagueof leprosy,that thou observediligently,and doaccording to all that the prieststhe Levitesshall teachyou: as I commandedthem, [so] ye shall observeto do.9Rememberwhat the LORDthy Goddidunto Miriamby the way,after that ye were come forthout of Egypt.
10When thou dost lendthy brotheranything,thou shalt not gointo his houseto fetchhis pledge.11Thou shalt standabroad,and the manto whom thou dost lendshall bring outthe pledgeabroadunto thee.12And if the man[be] poor,thou shalt not sleepwith his pledge:13In any casethou shalt deliverhim the pledgeagainwhen the sungoeth down,that he may sleepin his own raiment,and blessthee: and it shall be righteousnessunto thee beforethe LORDthy God.
14Thou shalt not oppressan hired servant[that is] poorand needy,[whether he be] of thy brethren,or of thy strangersthat [are] in thy landwithin thy gates:15At his daythou shalt give[him] his hire,neither shall the sungo downupon it; for he [is] poor,and settethhis heartupon it: lest he cryagainst thee unto the LORD,and it be sinunto thee.
16The fathersshall not be put to deathfor the children,neither shall the childrenbe put to deathfor the fathers:every manshall be put to deathfor his own sin.
17Thou shalt not pervertthe judgmentof the stranger,[nor] of the fatherless;nor takea widow'sraimentto pledge:18But thou shalt rememberthat thou wast a bondmanin Egypt,and the LORDthy Godredeemedthee thence: therefore I commandthee to dothis thing.
19When thou cuttest downthine harvestin thy field,and hast forgota sheafin the field,thou shalt not go againto fetchit: it shall be for the stranger,for the fatherless,and for the widow:that the LORDthy Godmay blessthee in all the workof thine hands.20When thou beatestthine olive tree,thou shalt not go over the boughsagain:it shall be for the stranger,for the fatherless,and for the widow.
21When thou gatherestthe grapes of thy vineyard,thou shalt not glean[it] afterward:it shall be for the stranger,for the fatherless,and for the widow.22And thou shalt rememberthat thou wast a bondmanin the landof Egypt:therefore I commandthee to dothis thing.
