Israel's Rebellion
(Numbers 14:1-12) 26Notwithstanding ye wouldnot go up,but rebelledagainst the commandmentof the LORDyour God:27And ye murmuredin your tents, and said,Because the LORDhatedus, he hath brought us forthout of the landof Egypt,to deliverus into the handof the Amorites,to destroyus.28Whither shall we go up?our brethrenhave discouragedour heart, saying,The people[is] greaterand tallerthan we; the cities[are] greatand walled upto heaven;and moreover we have seenthe sonsof the Anakimsthere.29Then I saidunto you, Dreadnot, neither be afraidof them.30The LORDyour Godwhich goethbeforeyou, he shall fightfor you, according to all that he didfor you in Egyptbefore your eyes;31And in the wilderness, where thou hast seenhow that the LORDthy Godbarethee, as a mandoth bearhis son,in all the waythat ye went, until ye cameinto this place.32Yet in this thingye did not believethe LORDyour God,33Who wentin the waybeforeyou, to search you outa placeto pitch your tents[in], in fireby night,to shewyou by what wayye should go,and in a cloudby day. The Defeat at Hormah 41Then ye answeredand saidunto me, We have sinnedagainst the LORD,we will go upand fight, according to all that the LORDour Godcommandedus. And when ye had girdedon every manhis weaponsof war,ye were readyto go upinto the hill.42And the LORDsaidunto me, Sayunto them, Go not up,neither fight;for I [am] not amongyou; lest ye be smittenbeforeyour enemies.43So I spakeunto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelledagainst the commandmentof the LORD,and wentpresumptuouslyupinto the hill.44And the Amorites, which dweltin that mountain, came outagainstyou, and chasedyou, as beesdo, and destroyedyou in Seir,[even] unto Hormah.45And ye returnedand weptbeforethe LORD;but the LORDwould not hearkento your voice, nor give earunto you.46So ye abodein Kadeshmanydays, according unto the daysthat ye abode[there]. |
