4And it came to pass afterthis, [that] Joashwas mindedto repairthe houseof the LORD.5And he gathered togetherthe priestsand the Levites, and saidto them, Go outunto the citiesof Judah, and gatherof all Israelmoneyto repairthe houseof your Godfromyearto year, and see that ye hastenthe matter.Howbeit the Leviteshastened[it] not.6And the kingcalledfor Jehoiadathe chief, and saidunto him, Why hast thou not requiredof the Levitesto bring inout of Judahand out of Jerusalemthe collection,[according to the commandment] of Mosesthe servantof the LORD,and of the congregationof Israel, for the tabernacleof witness?7For the sonsof Athaliah, that wickedwoman, had broken upthe houseof God;and also all the dedicated thingsof the houseof the LORDdid they bestowupon Baalim.

8And at the king'scommandmentthey madeachest, and setit withoutat the gateof the houseof the LORD.9And they madea proclamationthrough Judahand Jerusalem,to bring into the LORDthe collection[that] Mosesthe servantof God[laid] upon Israelin the wilderness.10And all the princesand all the peoplerejoiced, and brought in,and castinto the chest, until they had made an end.11Now it came to pass, that at what timethe chestwas broughtunto the king'sofficeby the handof the Levites, and when they sawthat [there was] muchmoney, the king'sscribeand the highpriest'sofficercameand emptiedthe chest, and tookit, and carriedit to his placeagain. Thus they diddayby day,and gatheredmoneyin abundance.12And the kingand Jehoiadagaveit to such as didthe workof the serviceof the houseof the LORD,and hiredmasonsand carpentersto repairthe houseof the LORD,and also such as wroughtironand brassto mendthe houseof the LORD.13So the workmenwrought, and the workwasperfectedby them, and they setthe houseof Godin his state, and strengthenedit.14And when they had finished[it], they broughtthe restof the moneybeforethe kingand Jehoiada, whereof were madevesselsfor the houseof the LORD,[even] vesselsto minister, and to offer[withal], and spoons, and vesselsof goldand silver. And they offeredburnt offeringsin the houseof the LORDcontinuallyall the daysof Jehoiada.

15But Jehoiadawaxed old,and was fullof dayswhen he died;an hundredand thirtyyearsold[was he] when he died.16And they buriedhim in the cityof Davidamong the kings, because he had donegoodin Israel, both toward God,and toward his house.

The Wickedness of Joash

17Now afterthe deathof Jehoiadacamethe princesof Judah, and made obeisanceto the king. Then the kinghearkenedunto them.18And they leftthe houseof the LORDGodof their fathers, and servedgrovesand idols:and wrathcame upon Judahand Jerusalemfor this their trespass.19Yet he sentprophetsto them, to bring them againunto the LORD;and they testifiedagainst them: but they would not give ear.

20And the Spiritof Godcameupon Zechariahthe sonof Jehoiadathe priest, which stoodabove the people, and saidunto them, Thus saithGod,Why transgressye the commandmentsof the LORD,that ye cannot prosper?because ye have forsakenthe LORD,he hath also forsakenyou.21And they conspiredagainst him, and stonedhim with stonesat the commandmentof the kingin the courtof the houseof the LORD.22Thus Joashthe kingrememberednot the kindnesswhich Jehoiadahis fatherhad doneto him, but slewhis son.And when he died,he said,The LORDlookupon [it], and require[it].

23And it came to pass at the endof the year,[that] the hostof Syriacame upagainst him: and they cameto Judahand Jerusalem, and destroyedall the princesof the peoplefrom among the people, and sentall the spoilof them unto the kingof Damascus.24For the armyof the Syrianscamewith a smallcompany of men,and the LORDdelivereda verygreathostinto their hand, because they had forsakenthe LORDGodof their fathers. So they executedjudgmentagainst Joash.

25And when they were departedfrom him, (for they lefthim in greatdiseases,) his own servantsconspiredagainst him for the bloodof the sonsof Jehoiadathe priest, and slewhim on his bed,and he died:and they buriedhim in the cityof David, but they buriedhim not in the sepulchresof the kings.26And these are they that conspiredagainst him; Zabadthe sonof Shimeathan Ammonitess, and Jehozabadthe sonof Shimritha Moabitess.27Now [concerning] his sons, and the greatness{08675;07230> of the burdens[laid] upon him, and the repairingof the houseof God,behold, they [are] writtenin the storyof the bookof the kings. And Amaziahhis sonreignedin his stead.
