David's Preparations for the Temple

1Then Davidsaid,This [is] the houseof the LORDGod,and this [is] the altarof the burnt offeringfor Israel.

2And Davidcommandedto gather togetherthe strangersthat [were] in the landof Israel;and he setmasonsto hewwroughtstonesto buildthe houseof God.3And Davidpreparedironin abundancefor the nailsfor the doorsof the gates,and for the joinings;and brassin abundancewithout weight;4Also cedartreesin abundance:for the Zidoniansand they of Tyrebroughtmuchcedarwoodto David.5And Davidsaid,Solomonmy son[is] youngand tender,and the house[that is] to be buildedfor the LORD[must be] exceedingmagnifical,of fameand of glorythroughout all countries:I will [therefore] now make preparationfor it. So Davidpreparedabundantlybeforehis death.

Solomon Anointed to Build the Temple

6Then he calledfor Solomonhis son,and chargedhim to buildan housefor the LORDGodof Israel.7And Davidsaidto Solomon,My son,as for me, it was in my mindto buildan houseunto the nameof the LORDmy God:8But the wordof the LORDcame to me, saying,Thou hast shedbloodabundantly,and hast madegreatwars:thou shalt not buildan houseunto my name,because thou hast shedmuchbloodupon the earthin my sight.9Behold, a sonshall be bornto thee, who shall be a manof rest;and I will give him restfrom all his enemiesround about:for his nameshall be Solomon,and I will givepeaceand quietnessunto Israelin his days.10He shall buildan housefor my name;and he shall be my son,and I [will be] his father;and I will establishthe throneof his kingdomover Israelforever.11Now, my son,the LORDbe with thee; and prosperthou, and buildthe houseof the LORDthy God,as he hath saidof thee.12Only the LORDgivethee wisdomand understanding,and give thee chargeconcerning Israel,that thou mayest keepthe lawof the LORDthy God.13Then shalt thou prosper,if thou takest heedto fulfilthe statutesand judgmentswhich the LORDchargedMoseswith concerning Israel:be strong,and of good courage;dreadnot, nor be dismayed.14Now, behold, in my troubleI have preparedfor the houseof the LORDan hundredthousandtalentsof gold,and a thousandthousandtalentsof silver;and of brassand ironwithout weight;for it is in abundance:timberalso and stonehave I prepared;and thou mayest addthereto.15Moreover [there are] workmenwith thee in abundance,hewersand workersof stoneand timber,and all manner of cunning menfor every manner of work.16Of the gold,the silver,and the brass,and the iron,[there is] no number.Arise[therefore], and be doing,and the LORDbe with thee.

17Davidalso commandedall the princesof Israelto helpSolomonhis son,[saying],18[Is] not the LORDyour Godwith you? and hath he [not] given you reston every side?for he hath giventhe inhabitantsof the landinto mine hand;and the landis subduedbeforethe LORD,and beforehis people.19Now setyour heartand your soulto seekthe LORDyour God;arisetherefore, and buildye the sanctuaryof the LORDGod,to bringthe arkof the covenantof the LORD,and the holyvesselsof God,into the housethat is to be builtto the nameof the LORD.
