Marvin Minsky in 2008[1]

Marvin Lee Minsky, (August 9, 1927 - January 24, 2016[2])
was an American mathematician, philosopher,cognitive scientist, and pioneer in the field ofartificial intelligence. Along withJohn McCarthy, he co-founded theMassachusetts Institute of Technology'sAI laboratory. In 1951, Minsky built the first randomly wiredneural networklearning machine,SNARC, and in 1969, along withSeymour Papert authoredPerceptrons, which became the foundational work in the analysis of artificial neural networks[3], also refered asthe abandonment ofconnectionism, a controversy in the history of AI concerning thePerceptron and its main researcherFrank Rosenblatt[4].

Marvin Minsky andJack Good were adviser of the 1968Arthur C. Clarke andStanley Kubrick film2001: A Space Odyssey, concerningSelf-replicating machine andHAL 9000, theHeuristically programmedALgorithmic computer, and were referred to both in the movie and the book[5][6].
