David J. Slate,
an American computer scientist and former computer chess programmer. He started chess programming in 1968 as physics graduate student atNorthwestern University, and by mid 1969 joined the group ofLarry Atkin andKeith Gorlen, to produce their first successful program,Chess 2.0.
