Macintosh External Disk Drive
Apple Computer, Inc. -- 1984

Soon after the Macintosh was first released, it became quite apparent that it needed more storage than its one internal drive could provide. Bill was the Engineering Project Manager for the fast-track project to create an external floppy disk drive for the Mac. He managed the mechanical design, performed the thermal engineering, oversaw the creation of the engineering documentation, worked with the plastic molding, cabling and mechanical parts vendors, inspected and approved the quality of molded parts and printed boxes, and traveled to Japan to work on engineering and manufacturing issues with Sony Corp., who second-sourced the product.
