1The wordthat cameto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,saying,2"Standin the gateof the LORD'Shouseand proclaimtherethiswordand say,'Hearthe wordof the LORD,allyou of Judah,who enterby thesegatesto worshipthe LORD!'"3Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,"Amendyour waysand your deeds,and I will let you dwellin thisplace.4"Do not trustin deceptivewords,saying,Thisis the templeof the LORD,the templeof the LORD,the templeof the LORD.'5"For ifyou trulyamendyour waysand your deeds,ifyou trulypracticejusticebetweena manand his neighbor,6[if] you do not oppressthe alien,the orphan,or the widow,and do not shedinnocentbloodin thisplace,norwalkafterothergodsto your own ruin,7then I will let you dwellin thisplace,in the landthat I gaveto your fathersforeverand ever.
8"Behold,you are trustingin deceptivewordsto noavail.9"Will you steal,murder,and commitadulteryand swearfalsely,and offersacrificesto Baaland walkafterothergodsthat you have not known,10then comeand standbeforeMe in thishouse,whichis calledby My name,and say,'We are delivered!'--that you may doalltheseabominations?11"Has thishouse,whichis calledby My name,becomea denof robbersin your sight?Behold,I, evenI, have seen[it]," declaresthe LORD.
12"But gonowto My placewhichwas in Shiloh,whereI made My namedwellat the first,and seewhatI didto it becauseof the wickednessof My peopleIsrael.13"And now,becauseyou have doneallthesethings,"declaresthe LORD,"and I spoketo you, risingup earlyand speaking,but you did not hear,and I calledyou but you did not answer,14therefore, I will doto the housewhichis calledby My name,in whichyou trust,and to the placewhichI gaveyou and your fathers,as I didto Shiloh.15"I will castyou out of My sight,as I have castout allyour brothers,allthe offspringof Ephraim.
16"As for you, do not prayfor thispeople,and do not liftup cryor prayerfor them, and do not intercedewith Me; for I do not hearyou.17"Do you not seewhatthey are doingin the citiesof Judahand in the streetsof Jerusalem?18"The childrengatherwood,and the fatherskindlethe fire,and the womenkneaddoughto makecakesfor the queenof heaven;and [they] pourout drinkofferingsto othergodsin orderto spiteMe.19"Do they spiteMe?" declaresthe LORD."Is it not themselves [they spite], to their ownshame?"20Thereforethussaysthe LordGOD,"Behold,My angerand My wrathwill be pouredout on thisplace,on manand on beastand on the treesof the fieldand on the fruitof the ground;and it will burnand not be quenched."
21Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,"Addyour burntofferingsto your sacrificesand eatflesh.22"For I did not speakto your fathers,or commandthem in the daythat I broughtthem out of the landof Egypt,concerningburntofferingsand sacrifices.23"But thisis whatI commandedthem, saying,ObeyMy voice,and I will be your God,and you will be My people;and you will walkin allthe waywhichI commandyou, that it may be wellwith you.'24"Yet they did not obeyor inclinetheir ear,but walkedin [their own] counsels[and] in the stubbornnessof their evilheart,and wentbackwardand not forward.25"Sincethe daythat your fatherscameout of the landof Egyptuntilthisday,I have sentyou allMy servantsthe prophets,dailyrisingearlyand sending[them].26"Yet they did not listento Me or inclinetheir ear,but stiffenedtheir neck;they did moreevilthantheir fathers.
27"You shall speakallthesewordsto them, but they will not listento you; and you shall callto them, but they will not answeryou.28"You shall sayto them, 'Thisis the nationthat did not obeythe voiceof the LORDtheir Godor acceptcorrection;truthhas perishedand has been cutofffrom their mouth.
29Cutoffyour hairand cast[it] away,And takeup a lamentationon the bareheights;For the LORDhas rejectedand forsakenThe generationof His wrath.'
30"For the sonsof Judahhave donethat whichis evilin My sight,"declaresthe LORD,"they have settheir detestablethingsin the housewhichis calledby My name,to defileit.31"They have builtthe highplacesof Topheth,whichis in the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,to burntheir sonsand their daughtersin the fire,whichI did not command,and it did not comeinto My mind.
32"Therefore,behold,daysare coming,"declaresthe LORD,"when it will nolongerbe calledTopheth,or the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,but the valleyof the Slaughter;for they will buryin Tophethbecausethereis no[other] place.33"The deadbodiesof thispeoplewill be foodfor the birdsof the skyand for the beastsof the earth;and noonewill frighten[them away].34"Then I will make to ceasefrom the citiesof Judahand from the streetsof Jerusalemthe voiceof joyand the voiceof gladness,the voiceof the bridegroomand the voiceof the bride;for the landwill becomea ruin.
