1Now when Abramwas ninety-nineyearsold,the LORDappearedto Abramand saidto him, "I am GodAlmighty;WalkbeforeMe, and be blameless.
2"I will establishMy covenantbetweenMe and you, And I will multiplyyou exceedingly."
3Abramfellon his face,and Godtalkedwith him, saying,
4"As for Me, behold,My covenantis with you, And you will be the fatherof a multitudeof nations.
5"Nolongershall your namebe calledAbram,But your nameshall be Abraham;For I will makeyou the fatherof a multitudeof nations.
6"I will makeyou exceedinglyfruitful,and I will makenationsof you, and kingswill comeforthfrom you.7"I will establishMy covenantbetweenMe and you and your descendantsafteryou throughout their generationsfor an everlastingcovenant,to be Godto you and to your descendantsafteryou.8"I will giveto you and to your descendantsafteryou, the landof your sojournings,allthe landof Canaan,for an everlastingpossession;and I will be their God."
9Godsaidfurther to Abraham,"Now as for you, you shall keepMy covenant,you and your descendantsafteryou throughout their generations.10"Thisis My covenant,whichyou shall keep,betweenMe and you and your descendantsafteryou: everymaleamong you shall be circumcised.11"And you shall be circumcisedin the fleshof your foreskin,and it shall be the signof the covenantbetweenMe and you.12"And everymaleamong you who is eightdaysoldshall be circumcisedthroughout your generations,a [servant] whois bornin the houseor whois boughtwith moneyfrom anyforeigner,whois not of your descendants.13"A [servant] whois bornin your houseor whois boughtwith your moneyshall surelybe circumcised;thus shall My covenantbe in your fleshfor an everlastingcovenant.14"But an uncircumcisedmalewhois not circumcisedin the fleshof his foreskin,that personshall be cutofffrom his people;he has brokenMy covenant."
15Then Godsaidto Abraham,"As for Saraiyour wife,you shall not callher nameSarai,but Sarah[shall be] her name.16"I will blessher, and indeedI will giveyou a sonby her. Then I will blessher, and she shall be [a mother of] nations;kingsof peopleswill comefrom her."17Then Abrahamfellon his faceand laughed,and saidin his heart,"Will a child be bornto a manone hundredyearsold?And will Sarah,who is ninetyyearsold,bear[a child]?"18And Abrahamsaidto God,"Ohthat Ishmaelmight livebeforeYou!"19But Godsaid,"No,but Sarahyour wifewill bearyou a son,and you shall callhis nameIsaac;and I will establishMy covenantwith him for an everlastingcovenantfor his descendantsafterhim.20"As for Ishmael,I have heardyou; behold,I will blesshim, and will makehim fruitfuland will multiplyhim exceedingly.He shall becomethe fatherof twelveprinces,and I will makehim a greatnation.21"But My covenantI will establishwith Isaac,whomSarahwill bearto you at thisseasonnextyear."22When He finishedtalkingwith him, Godwentup from Abraham.
23Then AbrahamtookIshmaelhis son,and all[the servants] whowere bornin his houseand allwhowere boughtwith his money,everymaleamong the menof Abraham'shousehold,and circumcisedthe fleshof their foreskinin the verysameday,as Godhad saidto him.24Now Abrahamwas ninety-nineyearsoldwhen he was circumcisedin the fleshof his foreskin.25And Ishmaelhis sonwas thirteenyearsoldwhen he was circumcisedin the fleshof his foreskin.26In the verysamedayAbrahamwas circumcised,and Ishmaelhis son.27Allthe menof his household,whowere bornin the houseor boughtwith moneyfrom a foreigner,were circumcisedwith him.
