1And the wordof the LORDcameto me in the ninthyear,in the tenthmonth,on the tenthof the month,saying,2"Sonof man,writethe nameof the day,thisveryday.The kingof Babylonhas laidsiegeto Jerusalemthisveryday.
3"Speaka parableto the rebellioushouseand sayto them, 'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Puton the pot,put[it] on and alsopourwaterin it;
4Putin it the pieces,Everygoodpiece,the thighand the shoulder;Fill[it] with choicebones.
5"Takethe choicestof the flock,And alsopilewoodunderthe pot. Make it boilvigorously.Alsoseetheits bonesin it."
6Therefore,thussaysthe LordGOD,"Woeto the bloodycity,To the potin whichthere is rustAnd whose rusthas not goneout of it! Takeout of it pieceafter piece,Withoutmakinga choice.
7"For her bloodis in her midst;She placedit on the barerock;She did not pourit on the groundTo coverit with dust.
8"That it may cause wrathto comeup to takevengeance,I have puther bloodon the barerock,That it may not be covered."
9Therefore,thussaysthe LordGOD,"Woeto the bloodycity!I alsowill makethe pilegreat.
10"Heapon the wood,kindlethe fire,Boilthe fleshwellAnd mixin the spices,And let the bonesbe burned.
11"Then setit emptyon its coalsSothat it may be hotAnd its bronzemay glowAnd its filthinessmay be meltedin it, Its rustconsumed.
12"She has wearied[Me] with toil,Yet her greatrusthas not gonefrom her; [Let] her rust[be] in the fire!
13"In your filthinessis lewdness.BecauseI [would] have cleansedyou, Yet you are not clean,You will not be cleansedfrom your filthinessagainUntilI have spentMy wrathon you.
14"I, the LORD,have spoken;it is comingand I will act.I will not relent,and I will not pityand I will not be sorry;according to your waysand according to your deedsI will judgeyou," declaresthe LordGOD.'"
15And the wordof the LORDcameto me saying,16"Sonof man,behold,I am about to takefrom you the desireof your eyeswith a blow;but you shall not mournand you shall not weep,and your tearsshall not come.17"Groansilently;makenomourningfor the dead.Bindon your turbanand putyour shoeson your feet,and do not cover[your] mustacheand do not eatthe breadof men."18So I spoketo the peoplein the morning,and in the eveningmy wifedied.And in the morningI didas I was commanded.19The peoplesaidto me, "Will you not tellus whatthesethingsthat you are doingmean for us?"20Then I saidto them, "The wordof the LORDcameto me saying,21Speakto the houseof Israel,"Thussaysthe LordGOD,'Behold,I am about to profaneMy sanctuary,the prideof your power,the desireof your eyesand the delightof your soul;and your sonsand your daughterswhomyou have leftbehindwill fallby the sword.22You will doas I have done;you will not cover[your] mustacheand you will not eatthe breadof men.23Your turbanswill be on your headsand your shoeson your feet.You will not mournand you will not weep,but you will rotawayin your iniquitiesand you will groanto oneanother.24Thus Ezekielwill be a signto you; according to allthat he has doneyou will do;when it comes,then you will knowthat I am the LordGOD.'"
25As for you, sonof man,will [it] not be on the daywhen I takefrom them their stronghold,the joyof their pride,the desireof their eyesand their heart'sdelight,their sonsand their daughters,26that on that dayhe whoescapeswill cometo you with informationfor [your] ears?27On that dayyour mouthwill be openedto him whoescaped,and you will speakand be mutenolonger.Thus you will be a signto them, and they will knowthat I am the LORD.'"
