3I thankGod,whomI servewith a clearconsciencethe waymy forefathersdid, as I constantlyrememberyou in my prayersnightand day,4longingto seeyou, even as I recallyour tears,sothat I may be filledwith joy.5For I am mindfulof the sincerefaithwithinyou, whichfirstdweltin your grandmotherLoisand your motherEunice,and I am surethat [it is] in you as well.6For thisreasonI remindyou to kindle afreshthe giftof Godwhichis in you throughthe layingon of my hands.7For Godhas not givenus a spiritof timidity,but of powerand loveand discipline.
8Thereforedo not be ashamedof the testimonyof our Lordorof me His prisoner,but join with [me] in sufferingfor the gospelaccordingto the powerof God,9who has savedus and calledus with a holycalling,not accordingto our works,but accordingto His ownpurposeand gracewhich was grantedus in ChristJesusfrom alleternity,10but nowhas been revealedby the appearingof our SaviorChristJesus,who abolisheddeathand broughtlifeand immortalityto lightthroughthe gospel,11for whichI was appointeda preacherand an apostleand a teacher.12For thisreasonI alsosufferthese things,but I am not ashamed;for I knowwhomI have believedand I am convincedthat He is ableto guardwhat I have entrustedto Him untilthat day.13Retainthe standardof soundwordswhichyou have heardfrom me, in the faithand lovewhich are in ChristJesus.14Guard,throughthe HolySpiritwho dwellsin us, the treasurewhich has been entrustedto [you].
15You are awareof the factthat allwho are in Asiaturned awayfrom me, among whomare Phygelusand Hermogenes.16The Lordgrantmercyto the houseof Onesiphorus,for he oftenrefreshedme and was not ashamedof my chains;17but when he was in Rome,he eagerlysearchedfor me and foundme--18the Lordgrantto him to findmercyfrom the Lordon that day--and you knowvery wellwhatservices he renderedat Ephesus.
