1Now Davidagaingatheredallthe chosenmen of Israel,thirtythousand.2And Davidaroseand wentwith allthe peoplewhowere with him to Baale-judah,to bringup from therethe arkof Godwhichis calledby the Name, the very nameof the LORDof hostswho is enthroned[above] the cherubim.3They placedthe arkof Godon a newcartthat they might bringit from the houseof Abinadabwhichwas on the hill;and Uzzahand Ahio, the sonsof Abinadab, were leadingthe newcart.4So they broughtit with the arkof Godfrom the houseof Abinadab, whichwas on the hill;and Ahiowas walkingaheadof the ark.5Meanwhile, Davidand allthe houseof Israelwere celebratingbeforethe LORDwith allkinds of [instruments made of] firwood, and with lyres, harps, tambourines, castanetsand cymbals.
6But when they cameto the threshingfloorof Nacon,Uzzahreachedout towardthe arkof Godand tookholdof it, for the oxennearly upset[it].7And the angerof the LORDburnedagainst Uzzah, and Godstruckhim downtherefor his irreverence;and he diedthereby the arkof God.8Davidbecameangrybecauseof the LORD'Soutburstagainst Uzzah, and that placeis calledPerez-uzzahto thisday.9So Davidwas afraidof the LORDthat day;and he said,"Howcan the arkof the LORDcometo me?"10And Davidwas unwillingto movethe arkof the LORDinto the cityof Davidwith him; but Davidtookit asideto the houseof Obed-edomthe Gittite.11Thus the arkof the LORDremainedin the houseof Obed-edomthe Gittitethreemonths, and the LORDblessedObed-edomand allhis household.
12Now it was toldKingDavid, saying,"The LORDhas blessedthe houseof Obed-edomand allthat belongs to him, on accountof the arkof God."Davidwentand broughtup the arkof Godfrom the houseof Obed-edominto the cityof Davidwith gladness.13And so it was, that whenthe bearersof the arkof the LORDhad gonesixpaces,he sacrificedan oxand a fatling.14And Davidwas dancingbeforethe LORDwith all[his] might, and Davidwas wearinga linenephod.15So Davidand allthe houseof Israelwere bringingup the arkof the LORDwith shoutingand the soundof the trumpet.
16Then it happened[as] the arkof the LORDcameinto the cityof Davidthat Michalthe daughterof Saullookedout of the windowand sawKingDavidleapingand dancingbeforethe LORD;and she despisedhim in her heart.
17So they broughtin the arkof the LORDand setit in its placeinsidethe tentwhichDavidhad pitchedfor it; and Davidofferedburntofferingsand peaceofferingsbeforethe LORD.18When Davidhad finishedofferingthe burntofferingand the peaceoffering,he blessedthe peoplein the nameof the LORDof hosts.19Further, he distributedto allthe people,to allthe multitudeof Israel, bothto menand women,a cakeof breadand oneof datesand oneof raisinsto eachone. Then allthe peopledepartedeachto his house.
20But when Davidreturnedto blesshis household,Michalthe daughterof Saulcameout to meetDavidand said,"Howthe kingof Israeldistinguishedhimself today! He uncoveredhimself todayin the eyesof his servants'maidsas oneof the foolishonesshamelesslyuncovershimself!"21So Davidsaidto Michal,"[It was] beforethe LORD,whochoseme aboveyour fatherand aboveallhis house,to appointme ruleroverthe peopleof the LORD,overIsrael;therefore I will celebratebeforethe LORD.22"I will be morelightlyesteemedthanthisand will be humblein my own eyes, but with the maidsof whomyou have spoken, with them I will be distinguished."23Michalthe daughterof Saulhadnochildto the dayof her death.
