1Then wentBoazupto the gate,and sat him downthere: and, behold, the kinsmanof whom Boazspakecameby; unto whom he said,Ho,sucha one!turn aside,sit downhere. And he turned aside,and sat down.2And he tooktenmenof the eldersof the city,and said,Sit ye downhere. And they sat down.3And he saidunto the kinsman,Naomi,that is come againout of the countryof Moab,selletha parcelof land,which [was] our brotherElimelech's:4And I thoughtto advertisethee, saying,Buy[it] before the inhabitants,and before the eldersof my people.If thou wilt redeem[it], redeem[it]: but if thou wilt not redeem[it, then] tellme, that I may know:for [there is] none to redeem[it] besidethee; and I [am] afterthee. And he said,I will redeem[it].5Then saidBoaz,What daythou buyestthe fieldof the handof Naomi,thou must buy[it] also of Ruththe Moabitess,the wifeof the dead,to raise upthe nameof the deadupon his inheritance.6And the kinsmansaid,I cannotredeem[it] for myself, lest I marmine own inheritance:redeemthou my rightto thyself; for I cannotredeem[it].

7Now this [was the manner] in former timein Israelconcerning redeemingand concerning changing,for to confirmall things;a manplucked offhis shoe,and gave[it] to his neighbour:and this [was] a testimonyin Israel.8Therefore the kinsmansaidunto Boaz,Buy[it] for thee. So he drew offhis shoe.9And Boazsaidunto the elders,and [unto] all the people,Ye [are] witnessesthis day,that I have boughtall that [was] Elimelech's,and all that [was] Chilion'sand Mahlon's,of the handof Naomi.10Moreover Ruththe Moabitess,the wifeof Mahlon,have I purchasedto be my wife,to raise upthe nameof the deadupon his inheritance,that the nameof the deadbe not cut offfrom amonghis brethren,and from the gateof his place:ye [are] witnessesthis day.11And all the peoplethat [were] in the gate,and the elders,said,[We are] witnesses.The LORDmakethe womanthat is comeinto thine houselike Racheland like Leah,which twodid buildthe houseof Israel:and dothou worthilyin Ephratah,and be famousin Bethlehem:12And let thy housebe like the houseof Pharez,whom Tamarbareunto Judah,of the seedwhich the LORDshall givethee of this young woman.

13So BoaztookRuth,and she was his wife:and when he went inunto her, the LORDgaveher conception,and she barea son.14And the womensaidunto Naomi,Blessed[be] the LORD,which hath not leftthee this daywithout a kinsman,that his namemay be famousin Israel.15And he shall be unto thee a restorerof [thy] life,and a nourisherof thine old age:for thy daughter in law,which loveththee, which is betterto thee than sevensons,hath bornhim.

16And Naomitookthe child,and laidit in her bosom,and became nurseunto it.17And the women her neighboursgaveit a name,saying,There is a sonbornto Naomi;and they calledhis nameObed:he [is] the fatherof Jesse,the fatherof David.
