How Long, O Lord?
(Psalm 74:1-23;Jeremiah 52:1-11)
{{A Psalmof Asaph.}} O God,the heathenare comeinto thine inheritance;thy holytemplehave they defiled;they have laidJerusalemon heaps.
The dead bodiesof thy servantshave they given[to be] meatunto the fowlsof the heaven,the fleshof thy saintsunto the beastsof the earth.
Their bloodhave they shedlike waterround aboutJerusalem;and [there was] none to bury[them].
We are become a reproachto our neighbours,a scornand derisionto them that are round aboutus.
How long, LORD?wilt thou be angryfor ever?shall thy jealousyburnlike fire?
Pour outthy wrathupon the heathenthat have not knownthee, and upon the kingdomsthat have not calledupon thy name.
For they have devouredJacob,and laid wastehis dwelling place.
O remembernot against us formeriniquities:let thy tender merciesspeedilypreventus: for we are broughtverylow.
Helpus, O Godof our salvation,forthe gloryof thy name:and deliverus, and purge awayour sins,for thy name'ssake.
Wherefore should the heathensay,Where [is] their God?let him be knownamong the heathenin our sight[by] the revengingof the bloodof thy servants[which is] shed.
Let the sighingof the prisonercomebeforethee; according to the greatnessof thy powerpreservethou those that are appointedto die;
And renderunto our neighbourssevenfoldinto their bosomtheir reproach,wherewith they have reproachedthee, O Lord.
So we thy peopleand sheepof thy pasturewill give thee thanksfor ever:we will shew forththy praiseto allgenerations.
