1Thenhe calledhistwelvedisciplestogether,andgavethempowerand authorityoveralldevils,andto curediseases.2Andhe sentthemto preachthe kingdomof God,andto healthe sick.3Andhe saiduntothem,Takenothingfor[your] journey,neitherstaves,norscrip,neitherbread,neithermoney;neitherhavetwocoatsapiece.4Andwhatsoeverhouseye enterinto,thereabide,andthencedepart.5Andwhosoeverwillnotreceiveyou,when ye goout ofthatcity,shake offthe verydustfromyourfeetfora testimonyagainstthem.6Andthey departed,and wentthroughthe towns,preaching the gospel,andhealingevery where.

Herod Desires to See Jesus

7NowHerodthe tetrarchheardof allthat was donebyhim:andhe was perplexed,becausethat it was saidofsome,thatJohnwas risenfromthe dead;8Andofsome,thatEliashad appeared;andof others,thatoneof the oldprophetswas risen again.9AndHerodsaid,JohnhaveIbeheaded:butwhoisthis,ofwhomIhearsuch things?Andhe desiredto seehim.

The Feeding of the Five Thousand

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Evil Spirit

(Matthew 17:14-21;Mark 9:14-29;Luke 17:5-10)

37Andit came to pass,that onthe nextday,when theywere come downfromthe hill,muchpeoplemethim.38And,behold,a manofthe companycried out,saying,Master,I beseechthee,lookuponmyson:forhe ismineonly child.39And,lo,a spirittakethhim,andhe suddenlycrieth out;andit tearethhimthat he foamethagain,andbruisinghimhardlydepartethfromhim.40AndI besoughtthydisciplestocasthimout;andthey couldnot.41AndJesusansweringsaid,Ofaithlessandperversegeneration,howlongshall I bewithyou,andsufferyou?Bringthysonhither.42Andas hewasyeta coming,the devilthrewhimdown,andtare[him]. AndJesusrebukedthe uncleanspirit,andhealedthe child,anddeliveredhimagainto hisfather.

Jesus Again Predicts His Death

(Luke 18:31-34)

43Andthey wereallamazedatthe mighty powerof God.Butwhile they wonderedevery oneatall thingswhichJesusdid,he saiduntohisdisciples,44Let thesesayingssink downintoyourears:forthe Sonof manshall bedeliveredintothe handsof men.45Butthey understood notthissaying,andit washidfromthem,thatthey perceiveditnot:andthey fearedto askhimofthatsaying.

The Greatest in the Kingdom

(Matthew 18:1-6;Mark 9:33-37)

46Thenthere arosea reasoningamongthem,whichof themshould begreatest.47AndJesus,perceivingthe thoughtof theirheart,tooka child,and sethimbyhim,48Andsaidunto them,Whosoevershall receivethischildinmynamereceivethme:andwhosoevershall receivemereceiveth himthat sentme:forhe that isleastamongyouall,the sameshall begreat.

49AndJohnansweredand said,Master,we sawonecasting outdevilsinthyname;andwe forbadhim,becausehe followethnotwithus.50AndJesussaiduntohim,Forbid[him] not:forhethat isnotagainstusisforus.

Samaritans Reject Jesus

51Andit came to pass,whenthe timewas comethat heshould be received up,hestedfastly sethisfaceto gotoJerusalem,52Andsentmessengersbeforehisface:andthey went,and enteredintoa villageof the Samaritans,tomake readyfor him.53Andthey didnotreceivehim,becausehisfacewasas though he would gotoJerusalem.54Andwhen hisdisciplesJamesandJohnsaw[this], they said,Lord,wilt thouthat we commandfireto come downfromheaven,andconsumethem,evenasEliasdid?55Buthe turned,and rebukedthem,andsaid,Ye knownotwhat mannerof spirityeare of.56Forthe Sonof manisnotcometo destroymen'slives,butto save[them]. Andthey wenttoanothervillage.

The Cost of Following Jesus

57Andit came to pass,that, as theywentinthe way,a certain[man] saiduntohim,Lord,I will followtheewhithersoeverthou goest.58AndJesussaidunto him,Foxeshaveholes,andbirdsof the air[have] nests;butthe Sonof manhathnotwhereto lay[his] head.59Andhe saiduntoanother,Followme.Buthe said,Lord,suffermefirstto goand burymyfather.60<1161> Jesussaidunto him,Letthe deadburytheirdead:butgothouand preachthe kingdomof God.61Andanotheralsosaid,Lord,I will followthee;butletmefirstgo bid them farewell,which are at home atmyhouse.62AndJesussaiduntohim,No man,having puthishandtothe plough,andlookingback,isfitforthe kingdomof God.
