Choose Whom You will Serve

(Deuteronomy 10:12-22)

14Now therefore fearthe LORD,and servehim in sincerityand in truth:and put awaythe godswhich your fathersservedon the other sideof the flood, and in Egypt;and serveye the LORD.15And if it seem evilunto youto servethe LORD,chooseyou this daywhomye will serve;whether the godswhich your fathersservedthat [were] on the other sideof the flood,or the godsof the Amorites,in whose landye dwell:but as for me and my house,we will servethe LORD.

16And the peopleansweredand said,God forbidthat we should forsakethe LORD,to serveothergods;17For the LORDour God,he [it is] that brought us upand our fathersout of the landof Egypt, from the houseof bondage, and which didthose greatsignsin our sight, and preservedus in all the waywherein we went, and among all the peoplethroughwhom we passed:18And the LORDdrave outfrom beforeus all the people, even the Amoriteswhich dweltin the land:[therefore] will we also servethe LORD;for he [is] our God.

19And Joshuasaidunto the people,Ye cannotservethe LORD:for he [is] an holyGod;he [is] a jealousGod;he will not forgiveyour transgressionsnor your sins.20If ye forsakethe LORD,and servestrangegods, then he will turnand do you hurt, and consumeyou, afterthat he hath done you good.21And the peoplesaidunto Joshua,Nay; but we will servethe LORD.22And Joshuasaidunto the people,Ye [are] witnessesagainst yourselves that ye have chosenyou the LORD,to servehim. And they said,[We are] witnesses.23Now therefore put away,[said he], the strangegodswhich [are] amongyou, and inclineyour heartunto the LORDGodof Israel.24And the peoplesaidunto Joshua,The LORDour Godwill we serve, and his voicewill we obey.25So Joshuamadea covenantwith the peoplethat day,and setthem a statuteand an ordinancein Shechem.26And Joshuawrotethese wordsin the bookof the lawof God,and tooka greatstone, and set it upthere under an oak, that [was] by the sanctuaryof the LORD.27And Joshuasaidunto all the people,Behold, this stoneshall be a witnessunto us; for it hath heardall the wordsof the LORDwhich he spakeunto us: it shall be therefore a witnessunto you, lest ye denyyour God.28So Joshualet the peopledepart, every manunto his inheritance.
