Canaan Divided by Lot
1And these [are the countries] which the childrenof Israelinheritedin the landof Canaan,which Eleazarthe priest,and Joshuathe sonof Nun,and the headsof the fathersof the tribesof the childrenof Israel,distributed for inheritanceto them.2By lot[was] their inheritance,as the LORDcommandedby the handof Moses,for the ninetribes,and [for] the halftribe.3For Moseshad giventhe inheritanceof twotribesand an halftribeon the other sideJordan:but unto the Leviteshe gavenone inheritanceamongthem.4For the childrenof Josephwere twotribes,Manassehand Ephraim:therefore they gaveno partunto the Levitesin the land,save citiesto dwell[in], with their suburbsfor their cattleand for their substance.5As the LORDcommandedMoses,so the childrenof Israeldid,and they dividedthe land.

6Then the childrenof Judahcameunto Joshuain Gilgal:and Calebthe sonof Jephunnehthe Kenezitesaidunto him, Thou knowestthe thingthat the LORDsaidunto Mosesthe manof Godconcerning meand theein Kadeshbarnea.7Fortyyearsold[was] I when Mosesthe servantof the LORDsentme from Kadeshbarneato espy outthe land;and I broughthim wordagainas [it was] in mine heart.8Nevertheless my brethrenthat went upwith me made the heartof the peoplemelt:but I whollyfollowedthe LORDmy God.9And Mosesswareon that day,saying,Surely the landwhereon thy feethave troddenshall be thine inheritance,and thy children'sforever,because thou hast whollyfollowedthe LORDmy God.10And now, behold, the LORDhath kept me alive,as he said,these fortyand fiveyears,even sincethe LORDspakethis wordunto Moses,while [the children of] Israelwanderedin the wilderness:and now, lo, I [am] this dayfourscoreand fiveyearsold.11As yet I [am as] strongthis dayas [I was] in the daythat Mosessentme: as my strength[was] then, even so [is] my strengthnow, for war,both to go out,and to come in.12Now therefore giveme this mountain,whereof the LORDspakein that day;for thou heardestin that dayhow the Anakims[were] there, and [that] the cities[were] great[and] fenced:if so bethe LORD[will be] withme, then I shall be able to drive them out,as the LORDsaid.
13And Joshuablessedhim, and gaveunto Calebthe sonof JephunnehHebronfor an inheritance.14Hebrontherefore became the inheritanceof Calebthe sonof Jephunnehthe Keneziteunto this day,because that he whollyfollowedthe LORDGodof Israel.15And the nameof Hebronbefore[was] Kirjatharba;[which Arba was] a greatmanamong the Anakims.And the landhad restfrom war.
