1And it came to pass, when Jabinkingof Hazorhad heard[those things], that he sentto Jobabkingof Madon,and to the kingof Shimron,and to the kingof Achshaph,2And to the kingsthat [were] on the northof the mountains,and of the plainssouthof Chinneroth,and in the valley,and in the bordersof Doron the west,3[And to] the Canaaniteon the eastand on the west,and [to] the Amorite,and the Hittite,and the Perizzite,and the Jebusitein the mountains,and [to] the Hiviteunder Hermonin the landof Mizpeh.4And they went out,they and all their hostswith them, muchpeople,even as the sandthat [is] upon the seashorein multitude,with horsesand chariotsverymany.5And when all these kingswere met together,they cameand pitchedtogetherat the watersof Merom,to fightagainst Israel.

6And the LORDsaidunto Joshua,Be not afraidbecauseof them: for to morrowabout this timewill I deliver them upall slainbeforeIsrael:thou shalt houghtheir horses,and burntheir chariotswith fire.7So Joshuacame,and all the peopleof warwith him, against them by the watersof Meromsuddenly;and they fell uponthem.8And the LORDdeliveredthem into the handof Israel,who smotethem, and chasedthem unto greatZidon,and unto Misrephothmaim,and unto the valleyof Mizpeheastward;and they smotethem, until they leftthem none remaining.9And Joshuadidunto them as the LORDbadehim: he houghedtheir horses,and burnttheir chariotswith fire.

10And Joshuaat that timeturned back,and tookHazor,and smotethe kingthereof with the sword:for Hazorbeforetimewas the headof all those kingdoms.11And they smoteall the soulsthat [were] therein with the edgeof the sword,utterly destroying[them]: there was not any leftto breathe:and he burntHazorwith fire.12And all the citiesof those kings,and all the kingsof them, did Joshuatake,and smotethem with the edgeof the sword,[and] he utterly destroyedthem, as Mosesthe servantof the LORDcommanded.13But [as for] the citiesthat stoodstill in their strength,Israelburnednone of them, saveHazoronly; [that] did Joshuaburn.14And all the spoilof these cities,and the cattle,the childrenof Israeltook for a preyunto themselves; but every manthey smotewith the edgeof the sword,until they had destroyedthem, neither leftthey any to breathe.15As the LORDcommandedMoseshis servant,so did MosescommandJoshua,and so didJoshua;he leftnothingundoneof all that the LORDcommandedMoses.

Joshua Takes the Whole Land

16So Joshuatookall that land,the hills,and all the south country,and all the landof Goshen,and the valley,and the plain,and the mountainof Israel,and the valleyof the same;17[Even] from the mountHalak,that goeth upto Seir,even unto Baalgadin the valleyof Lebanonunder mountHermon:and all their kingshe took,and smotethem, and slewthem.18Joshuamadewara longtimewith all those kings.19There was not a citythat made peacewith the childrenof Israel,save the Hivitesthe inhabitantsof Gibeon:all [other] they tookin battle.20For it was of the LORDto hardentheir hearts,that they should come againstIsraelin battle,that he might destroy them utterly,[and] that they might have no favour,but that he might destroythem, as the LORDcommandedMoses.

21And at that timecameJoshua,and cut offthe Anakimsfrom the mountains,from Hebron,from Debir,from Anab,and from all the mountainsof Judah,and from all the mountainsof Israel:Joshuadestroyed them utterlywith their cities.22There was none of the Anakimsleftin the landof the childrenof Israel:only in Gaza,in Gath,and in Ashdod,there remained.23So Joshuatookthe whole land,according to all that the LORDsaidunto Moses;and Joshuagaveit for an inheritanceunto Israelaccording to their divisionsby their tribes.And the landrestedfrom war.
