Israel's Stubbornness

Hearye this, O houseof Jacob, which are calledby the nameof Israel, and are come forthout of the watersof Judah, which swearby the nameof the LORD,and make mentionof the Godof Israel,[but] not in truth, nor in righteousness.

For they callthemselves of the holycity, and staythemselves upon the Godof Israel; The LORDof hosts[is] his name.

I have declaredthe former thingsfrom the beginning;and they went forthout of my mouth, and I shewedthem; I did[them] suddenly, and they came to pass.

Because I knewthat thou [art] obstinate,and thy neck[is] an ironsinew,and thy browbrass;

I have even from the beginningdeclared[it] to thee; before it came to passI shewed[it] thee: lest thou shouldest say,Mine idolhath donethem, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commandedthem.

Thou hast heard, seeall this; and will not ye declare[it]? I have shewedthee new thingsfrom this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not knowthem.

They are creatednow, and not from the beginning; even beforethe daywhen thou heardestthem not; lest thou shouldest say,Behold, I knewthem.

Yea, thou heardestnot; yea, thou knewestnot; yea, from that time [that] thine earwas not opened:for I knewthat thou wouldest deal verytreacherously, and wast calleda transgressorfrom the womb.

For my name'ssake will I defermine anger, and for my praisewill I refrainfor thee, that I cut thee not off.

Behold, I have refinedthee, but not with silver;I have chosenthee in the furnaceof affliction.

For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I do[it]: for how should [my name] be polluted?and I will not givemy gloryunto another.

Israel Promised Deliverance

Hearkenunto me, O Jacoband Israel,my called;I [am] he; I [am] the first,I also [am] the last.

Mine handalso hath laid the foundationof the earth, and my right handhath spannedthe heavens:[when] I callunto them, they stand uptogether.

All ye, assembleyourselves, and hear;which among them hath declaredthese [things]? The LORDhath lovedhim: he will dohis pleasureon Babylon, and his arm[shall be on] the Chaldeans.

I, [even] I, have spoken;yea, I have calledhim: I have broughthim, and he shall make his wayprosperous.

Comeye nearunto me, hearye this; I have not spokenin secretfrom the beginning;from the timethat it was, there [am] I: and now the LordGOD,and his Spirit, hath sentme.

Thus saiththe LORD,thy Redeemer, the Holy Oneof Israel;I [am] the LORDthy Godwhich teacheththee to profit, which leadeththee by the way[that] thou shouldest go.

O thatthou hadst hearkenedto my commandments!then had thy peacebeen as a river, and thy righteousnessas the wavesof the sea:

Thy seedalso had been as the sand, and the offspringof thy bowelslike the gravelthereof; his nameshould not have been cut offnor destroyedfrom beforeme.

Go ye forthof Babylon, fleeye from the Chaldeans, with a voiceof singingdeclareye, tellthis, utterit [even] to the endof the earth;sayye, The LORDhath redeemedhis servantJacob.

And they thirstednot [when] he ledthem through the deserts:he caused the watersto flowout of the rockfor them: he clavethe rockalso, and the watersgushed out.

[There is] no peace, saiththe LORD,unto the wicked.
