(2 Timothy 2:1-13) 1Whereforeseeing we alsoarecompassed aboutwith so greata cloudof witnesses,letuslay asideeveryweight,andthe sinwhich doth so easily beset[us], and let us runwithpatiencethe racethat is set beforeus,2LookinguntoJesusthe authorandfinisherof [our] faith;whoforthe joythat was set beforehimenduredthe cross,despisingthe shame,andis set downatthe right handof the throneof God. 3Forconsiderhim that enduredsuchcontradictionofsinnersagainsthimself,lestye be weariedand faintin yourminds. God Disciplines His Sons 4Ye havenot yetresisteduntoblood,strivingagainstsin. 5Andye have forgottenthe exhortationwhichspeakethunto youasunto children,Myson,despisenotthouthe chasteningof the Lord,norfaintwhen thou art rebukedofhim: 6Forwhomthe Lordlovethhe chasteneth,andscourgetheverysonwhomhe receiveth. 7Ifye endurechastening,Goddealethwith youaswith sons;forwhatsonis hewhomthe fatherchastenethnot?8Butifye bewithoutchastisement,whereofallarepartakers,thenare yebastards,andnotsons.9Furthermorewe have hadfathersof ourfleshwhich corrected[us], andwe gave [them] reverence:shall wenotmuchratherbe in subjectionunto the Fatherof spirits,andlive?10Forthey verilyfora fewdayschastened[us] aftertheir ownpleasure;buthe for[our] profit,that[we] might be partakersof hisholiness.11Nownochasteningforthe presentseemethto bejoyous,butgrievous:neverthelessafterwardit yieldeththe peaceablefruitof righteousnessunto them which are exercisedthereby. 12Whereforelift upthe handswhich hang down,andthe feebleknees;13Andmakestraightpathsfor yourfeet,lest thatwhich is lamebe turned out of the way;butlet itratherbe healed. (1 Peter 1:13-21) 14Followpeacewithall[men], andholiness,withoutwhichno manshall seethe Lord:15Looking diligentlylestany manfailofthe graceof God;lestanyrootof bitternessspringinguptrouble[you], andtherebymanybe defiled;16Lestthere [be] anyfornicator,orprofane person,asEsau,whoforonemorsel of meatsoldhisbirthright.17Forye knowhowthat afterward,when he wouldhave inheritedthe blessing,he was rejected:forhe foundnoplaceof repentance,thoughhe soughtitcarefullywithtears.
