Vision of Idolatry in the Temple
1And it came to pass in the sixthyear,in the sixth[month], in the fifth[day] of the month,[as] I satin mine house,and the eldersof Judahsatbeforeme, that the handof the LordGODfellthere upon me.2Then I beheld,and lo a likenessas the appearanceof fire:from the appearanceof his loinseven downward,fire;and from his loinseven upward,as the appearanceof brightness,as the colourof amber.3And he put forththe formof an hand,and tookme by a lockof mine head;and the spiritlifted me upbetween the earthand the heaven,and broughtme in the visionsof Godto Jerusalem,to the doorof the innergatethat lookethtoward the north;where [was] the seatof the imageof jealousy,which provoketh to jealousy.4And, behold, the gloryof the Godof Israel[was] there, according to the visionthat I sawin the plain.
5Then saidhe unto me, Sonof man,lift upthine eyesnow the waytoward the north.So I lifted upmine eyesthe waytoward the north,and behold northwardat the gateof the altarthis imageof jealousyin the entry.6He saidfurthermore unto me, Sonof man,seestthou what they do?[even] the greatabominationsthat the houseof Israelcommittethhere, that I should go far offfrom my sanctuary?but turnthee yet again, [and] thou shalt seegreaterabominations.
7And he broughtme to the doorof the court;and when I looked,behold aholein the wall.8Then saidhe unto me, Sonof man,dignow in the wall:and when I had diggedin the wall,behold adoor.9And he saidunto me, Go in,and beholdthe wickedabominationsthat they dohere.10So I went inand saw;and behold every formof creeping things,and abominablebeasts,and all the idolsof the houseof Israel,pourtrayedupon the wallround about.11And there stoodbeforethem seventymenof the ancientsof the houseof Israel,and in the midstof them stoodJaazaniahthe sonof Shaphan,with every manhis censerin his hand;and a thickcloudof incensewent up.12Then saidhe unto me, Sonof man,hast thou seenwhat the ancientsof the houseof Israeldoin the dark,every manin the chambersof his imagery?for they say,The LORDseethus not; the LORDhath forsakenthe earth.13He saidalso unto me, Turnthee yet again, [and] thou shalt seegreaterabominationsthat they do.
14Then he broughtme to the doorof the gateof the LORD'Shousewhich [was] toward the north;and, behold, there satwomenweepingfor Tammuz.15Then saidhe unto me, Hast thou seen[this], O sonof man?turnthee yet again, [and] thou shalt seegreaterabominationsthan these.
16And he broughtme into the innercourtof the LORD'Shouse,and, behold, at the doorof the templeof the LORD,between the porchand the altar,[were] about fiveand twentymen,with their backstoward the templeof the LORD,and their facestoward the east;and they worshippedthe suntoward the east.17Then he saidunto me, Hast thou seen[this], O sonof man?Is it a light thingto the houseof Judahthat they committhe abominationswhich they commithere? for they have filledthe landwith violence,and have returnedto provoke me to anger:and, lo, they putthe branchto their nose.18Therefore will I also dealin fury:mine eyeshall not spare,neither will I have pity:and though they cryin mine earswith a loudvoice,[yet] will I not hearthem.
