The New Tablets of Stone

(Exodus 34:1-9)

1At that timethe LORDsaidunto me, Hewthee twotablesof stonelike unto the first,and come upunto me into the mount,and makethee an arkof wood.2And I will writeon the tablesthe wordsthat were in the firsttableswhich thou brakest,and thou shalt putthem in the ark.3And I madean ark[of] shittimwood,and hewedtwotablesof stonelike unto the first,and went upinto the mount,having the twotablesin mine hand.4And he wroteon the tables,according to the firstwriting,the tencommandments,which the LORDspakeunto you in the mountout of the midstof the firein the dayof the assembly:and the LORDgavethem unto me.5And I turnedmyself and came downfrom the mount,and putthe tablesin the arkwhich I had made;and there they be, as the LORDcommandedme.

6And the childrenof Israeltook their journeyfrom Beeroth of the children of Jaakanto Mosera:there Aarondied,and there he was buried;and Eleazarhis sonministered in the priest's officein his stead.7From thence they journeyedunto Gudgodah;and from Gudgodahto Jotbath,a landof riversof waters.8At that timethe LORDseparatedthe tribeof Levi,to bearthe arkof the covenantof the LORD,to standbeforethe LORDto ministerunto him, and to blessin his name,unto this day.9Wherefore Levihath no partnor inheritancewith his brethren;the LORD[is] his inheritance,according as the LORDthy Godpromisedhim.

10And I stayedin the mount,according to the firsttime,fortydaysand fortynights;and the LORDhearkenedunto me at that timealso, [and] the LORDwouldnot destroythee.11And the LORDsaidunto me, Arise,take[thy] journeybeforethe people,that they may go inand possessthe land,which I swareunto their fathersto giveunto them.

A Call to Obedience

(Joshua 24:14-28)

12And now, Israel,what doth the LORDthy Godrequireof thee, but to fearthe LORDthy God,to walkin all his ways,and to lovehim, and to servethe LORDthy Godwith all thy heartand with all thy soul,13To keepthe commandmentsof the LORD,and his statutes,which I commandthee this dayfor thy good?14Behold, the heavenand the heavenof heavens[is] the LORD'Sthy God,the earth[also], with all that therein [is].15Only the LORDhad a delightin thy fathersto lovethem, and he chosetheir seedafterthem, [even] you above all people,as [it is] this day.16Circumcisetherefore the foreskinof your heart,and be no more stiffnecked.17For the LORDyour God[is] Godof gods,and Lordof lords,a greatGod,a mighty,and a terrible,which regardethnot persons,nor takethreward:18He doth executethe judgmentof the fatherlessand widow,and loveththe stranger,in givinghim foodand raiment.19Loveye therefore the stranger:for ye were strangersin the landof Egypt.20Thou shalt fearthe LORDthy God;him shalt thou serve,and to him shalt thou cleave,and swearby his name.21He [is] thy praise,and he [is] thy God,that hath donefor thee these greatand terrible things,which thine eyeshave seen.22Thy fatherswent downinto Egyptwith threescore and tenpersons;and now the LORDthy Godhath madethee as the starsof heavenfor multitude.
