ThenDanielansweredwith counseland wisdomto Ariochthe captainofthe king'sguard, which was gone forthto slaythe wise[men] of Babylon:15He answeredand saidto Ariochthe king'scaptain,Why[is] the decree[so] hastyfromthe king?ThenAriochmade the thingknownto Daniel.16Then Danielwent in,and desiredofthe kingthat he would givehim time, and that he would shewthe kingthe interpretation.

ThenDanielwentto his house, and made the thingknownto Hananiah,Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:18That they would desiremerciesofthe Godof heavenconcerningthissecret;that Danieland his fellowsshould notperishwiththe restof the wise[men] of Babylon.

Thenwas the secretrevealedunto Danielin a nightvision.ThenDanielblessedthe Godof heaven.

Danielansweredand said,Blessedbethe nameof Godforeverand ever:for wisdomand mightarehis:

And he changeththe timesand the seasons:he removethkings, and setteth upkings:he givethwisdomunto the wise, and knowledgeto them that knowunderstanding:

He revealeththe deepand secret things:he knowethwhat[is] in the darkness, and the lightdwellethwith him.

Ithankthee, and praisethee, O thou Godof my fathers, who hast givenme wisdomand might, and hast made knownunto me nowwhat we desiredof thee:for thou hast [now] made knownunto us the king'smatter.

Daniel Interprets the Dream

ThereforeDanielwent inuntoArioch, whom the kinghad ordainedto destroythe wise[men] of Babylon:he wentand saidthusunto him; Destroynotthe wise[men] of Babylon:bring me inbeforethe king, and I will shewunto the kingthe interpretation.

ThenAriochbrought inDanielbeforethe kingin haste, and saidthusunto him, I have founda manof the captivesofJudah, that will make knownunto the kingthe interpretation.26The kingansweredand saidto Daniel, whose name[was] Belteshazzar,Artthou ableto make knownunto me the dreamwhich I have seen, and the interpretationthereof?27Danielansweredin the presenceof the king, and said,The secretwhich the kinghath demandedcannotthe wise[men], the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shewunto the king;28Butthere isa Godin heaventhat revealethsecrets, and maketh knownto the kingNebuchadnezzarwhatshall bein the latterdays.Thy dream, and the visionsof thy headuponthy bed,are these;29As for thee,O king, thy thoughtscame[into thy mind] uponthy bed, whatshould come to passhereafter:and he that revealethsecretsmaketh knownto thee whatshall come to pass.30But as for me,thissecretis notrevealedto me for [any] wisdomthat I havemore thananyliving, butfor [their] sakesthatshall make knownthe interpretationto the king, and that thou mightest knowthe thoughtsof thy heart.

Thou,O king, sawest, and beholda greatimage.Thisgreatimage, whose brightness[was] excellent, stoodbeforethee; and the formthereof [was] terrible.32This image'shead[was] of finegold, his breastand his armsof silver, his bellyand his thighsof brass,33His legsof iron, his feetpartof ironand partof clay.34Thou sawesttillthat a stonewas cut outwithouthands, which smotethe imageuponhis feet[that were] of ironand clay, and brakethemto pieces.35Thenwas the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces{08676;01751:08754} together, and becamelike the chaffofthe summerthreshingfloors;and the windcarriedthemaway, thatnoplacewas foundfor them: and the stonethat smotethe imagebecamea greatmountain, and filledthe wholeearth.

This[is] the dream;and we will tellthe interpretationthereof beforethe king.37Thou,O king,[art] a kingof kings:for the Godof heavenhath giventhee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.38And wheresoeverthe childrenof mendwell, the beastsof the fieldand the fowlsof the heavenhath he giveninto thine hand, and hath made thee rulerover them all.Thou[art] this headof gold.

And afterthee shall ariseanotherkingdominferiorto thee, and anotherthirdkingdomof brass, which shall bear ruleover allthe earth.

And the fourthkingdomshall bestrongas iron:forasmuch as ironbreaketh in piecesand subduethall[things]: and asironthat breakethallthese, shall it break in piecesand bruise.41And whereas thou sawestthe feetand toes, partof potters'clay, and partof iron, the kingdomshall bedivided;butthere shall bein it ofthe strengthof the iron, forasmuch asthou sawestthe ironmixedwith miryclay.42And [as] the toesof the feet[were] partof iron, and partof clay,[so] the kingdomshall bepartlystrong, and partlybroken.43And whereasthou sawestironmixedwith miryclay, they shall mingle themselveswith the seedof men:but they shallnotcleaveonetoanother, evenas ironis notmixedwith clay.

And in the daysof thesekingsshall the Godof heavenset upa kingdom, which shall neverbe destroyed:and the kingdomshall notbe leftto otherpeople,[but] it shall break in piecesand consumeallthesekingdoms, and itshall standfor ever.45Forasmuch asthou sawestthat the stonewas cut outof the mountainwithouthands, and that it brake in piecesthe iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold;the greatGodhath made knownto the kingwhatshall come to passhereafter:and the dream[is] certain, and the interpretationthereof sure.
