The Perils of the Pilgrim
1Why standestthou afar off,O LORD?[why] hidestthou [thyself] in timesof trouble?
2The wickedin [his] pridedoth persecutethe poor:let them be takenin the devicesthatthey have imagined.
3For the wickedboastethof his heart'sdesire,and blesseththe covetous,[whom] the LORDabhorreth.
4The wicked,through the prideof his countenance,will not seek[after God]: God[is] not in all his thoughts.
5His waysare alwaysgrievous;thy judgments[are] far aboveout of his sight: [as for] all his enemies,he puffethat them.
6He hath saidin his heart,I shall not be moved:for [I shall] never[be] in adversity.
7His mouthis fullof cursingand deceitand fraud:under his tongue[is] mischiefand vanity.
8He sittethin the lurking placesof the villages:in the secret placesdoth he murderthe innocent:his eyesare privily setagainst the poor.
9He lieth in waitsecretlyas a lionin his den:he lieth in waitto catchthe poor:he doth catchthe poor,when he drawethhim into his net.
10He croucheth,[and] humblethhimself, that the poormay fallby his strong ones.
11He hath saidin his heart,Godhath forgotten:he hidethhis face;he will neversee[it].
12Arise,O LORD;O God,lift upthine hand:forgetnot the humble.
13Wherefore doth the wickedcontemnGod?he hath saidin his heart,Thou wilt not require[it].
14Thou hast seen[it]; for thou beholdestmischiefand spite,to requite[it] with thy hand:the poorcommittethhimself unto thee; thou art the helperof the fatherless.
15Breakthou the armof the wickedand the evil[man]: seek outhis wickedness[till] thou findnone.
16The LORD[is] Kingfor everand ever:the heathenare perishedout of his land.
17LORD,thou hast heardthe desireof the humble:thou wilt preparetheir heart,thou wilt cause thine earto hear:
18To judgethe fatherlessand the oppressed,that the manof the earthmay no moreoppress.
