Better is the Poor Man with Integrity
1Better[is] the poorthat walkethin his integrity,than [he that is] perversein his lips,and is a fool.
2Also, [that] the soul[be] without knowledge,[it is] not good;and he that hastethwith [his] feetsinneth.
3The foolishnessof manpervertethhis way:and his heartfrettethagainst the LORD.
4Wealthmakethmanyfriends;but the pooris separatedfrom his neighbour.
5A FALSEwitnessshall not be unpunished,and [he that] speakethliesshall not escape.
6Manywill intreatthe favourof the prince:and every man [is] a friendto himthat giveth gifts.
7All the brethrenof the poordo hatehim: how much more do his friendsgo farfrom him? he pursueth[them with] words,[yet] they [are] wanting [to him].
8He that gettethwisdomlovethhis own soul:he that keepethunderstandingshall findgood.
9A FALSEwitnessshall not be unpunished,and [he that] speakethliesshall perish.
10Delightis not seemlyfor a fool;much less for a servantto have ruleover princes.
11The discretionof a mandeferrethhis anger;and [it is] his gloryto pass overa transgression.
12The king'swrath[is] as the roaringof a lion;but his favour[is] as dewupon the grass.
13A foolishson[is] the calamityof his father:and the contentionsof a wife[are] a continualdropping.
14Houseand riches[are] the inheritanceof fathers:and a prudentwife[is] from the LORD.
15Slothfulnesscastethinto a deep sleep;and an idlesoulshall suffer hunger.
16He that keepeththe commandmentkeepethhis own soul;[but] he that despisethhis waysshall die.
17He that hath pityupon the poorlendethunto the LORD;and that which he hath givenwill he pay him again.
18Chastenthy sonwhile there ishope,and let not thy soulsparefor his crying.
19A manof greatwrathshall sufferpunishment:for if thou deliver[him], yet thou must do it again.
20Hearcounsel,and receiveinstruction,that thou mayest be wisein thy latter end.
21[There are] manydevicesin a man'sheart;nevertheless the counselof the LORD,that shall stand.
22The desireof a man[is] his kindness:and a poor man[is] betterthana liar.
23The fearof the LORD[tendeth] to life:and [he that hath it] shall abidesatisfied;he shall not be visitedwith evil.
24A slothful[man] hidethhis handin [his] bosom,and will not so much as bringit to his mouthagain.
25Smitea scorner,and the simplewill beware:and reproveone that hath understanding,[and] he will understandknowledge.
26He that wasteth[his] father,[and] chaseth away[his] mother,[is] a sonthat causeth shame,and bringeth reproach.
27Cease,my son,to hearthe instruction[that causeth] to errfrom the wordsof knowledge.
28An ungodlywitnessscornethjudgment:and the mouthof the wickeddevourethiniquity.
29Judgmentsare preparedfor scorners,and stripesfor the backof fools.
