(2 Chronicles 20:1-4)
The visionof Obadiah.Thus saiththe LordGODconcerning Edom;We have hearda rumourfrom the LORD,and an ambassadoris sentamong the heathen,Ariseye, and let us rise upagainst her in battle.
Behold, I have madethee smallamong the heathen:thou art greatlydespised.
The prideof thine hearthath deceivedthee, thou that dwellestin the cleftsof the rock,whose habitation[is] high;that saithin his heart,Who shall bring me downto the ground?
Though thou exalt[thyself] as the eagle,and though thou setthy nestamong the stars,thence will I bring thee down,saiththe LORD.
If thievescameto thee, if robbersby night,(how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolentill they had enough?if the grapegathererscameto thee, would they not leave[some] grapes?
How are [the things] of Esausearched out![how] are his hiddenthings sought up!
All the menof thy confederacyhave broughtthee [even] to the border:the menthat were at peacewith thee have deceivedthee, [and] prevailedagainst thee; [they that eat] thy breadhave laida woundunder thee: [there is] none understandingin him.
Shall I not in that day,saiththe LORD,even destroythe wise[men] out of Edom,and understandingout of the mountof Esau?
And thy mighty[men], O Teman,shall be dismayed,to the end that every oneof the mountof Esaumay be cut offby slaughter.
For [thy] violenceagainst thy brotherJacobshameshall coverthee, and thou shalt be cut offfor ever.
In the daythat thou stoodeston the other side, in the daythat the strangerscarried away captivehis forces,and foreignersenteredinto his gates,and castlotsupon Jerusalem,even thou [wast] as oneof them.
But thou shouldest not have lookedon the dayof thy brotherin the daythat he became a stranger;neither shouldest thou have rejoicedover the childrenof Judahin the dayof their destruction;neither shouldest thou have spokenproudlyin the dayof distress.
Thou shouldest not have enteredinto the gateof my peoplein the dayof their calamity;yea, thou shouldest not have lookedon their afflictionin the dayof their calamity,nor have laid[hands] on their substancein the dayof their calamity;
Neither shouldest thou have stoodin the crossway,to cut offthose of his that did escape;neither shouldest thou have delivered upthose of his that did remainin the dayof distress.
