The Circumcision at Gilgal
(Genesis 17:9-27;Leviticus 12:1-8;Acts 15:1-4)
1And it came to pass, when all the kingsof the Amorites,which [were] on the sideof Jordanwestward,and all the kingsof the Canaanites,which [were] by the sea,heardthat the LORDhad dried upthe watersof Jordanfrom beforethe childrenof Israel,until we were passed over,that their heartmelted,neither was there spiritin them any more, becauseof the childrenof Israel.
2At that timethe LORDsaidunto Joshua,Makethee sharpknives,and circumciseagainthe childrenof Israelthe second time.3And Joshuamadehim sharpknives,and circumcisedthe childrenof Israelat the hillof the foreskins.4And this [is] the causewhy Joshuadid circumcise:All the peoplethat came outof Egypt,[that were] males,[even] all the menof war,diedin the wildernessby the way,after they came outof Egypt.5Nowall the peoplethat came outwere circumcised:but all the people[that were] bornin the wildernessby the wayas they came forthout of Egypt,[them] they had not circumcised.6For the childrenof Israelwalkedfortyyearsin the wilderness,till all the people[that were] menof war,which came outof Egypt,were consumed,because they obeyednot the voiceof the LORD:unto whom the LORDswarethat he would not shewthem the land,which the LORDswareunto their fathersthat he would giveus, a landthat flowethwith milkand honey.7And their children,[whom] he raised upin their stead, them Joshuacircumcised:for they were uncircumcised,because they had not circumcisedthem by the way.
8And it came to pass, when they had donecircumcisingall the people,that they abodein their places in the camp,till they were whole.9And the LORDsaidunto Joshua,This dayhave I rolled awaythe reproachof Egyptfrom off you. Wherefore the nameof the placeis calledGilgalunto this day.
The Passover at Gilgal
10And the childrenof Israelencampedin Gilgal,and keptthe passoveron the fourteenthdayof the monthat evenin the plainsof Jericho.11And they did eatof the old cornof the landon the morrowafter the passover,unleavened cakes,and parched[corn] in the selfsameday.12And the mannaceasedon the morrowafter they had eatenof the old cornof the land;neither had the childrenof Israelmannaany more; but they did eatof the fruitof the landof Canaanthat year.
13And it came to pass, when Joshuawas by Jericho,that he lifted uphis eyesand looked,and, behold, there stooda manover against him with his sworddrawnin his hand:and Joshuawentunto him, and saidunto him, [Art] thou for us, or for our adversaries?14And he said,Nay; but [as] captainof the hostof the LORDam I now come.And Joshuafellon his faceto the earth,and did worship,and saidunto him, What saithmy lordunto his servant?15And the captainof the LORD'Shostsaidunto Joshua,Loosethy shoefrom off thy foot;for the placewhereon thou standest[is] holy.And Joshuadidso.
