(Judges 1:1-7)

1Now Joshuawas old[and] strickenin years;and the LORDsaidunto him, Thou art old[and] strickenin years,and there remainethyet verymuchlandto be possessed.2This [is] the landthat yet remaineth:all the bordersof the Philistines,and all Geshuri,3From Sihor,which [is] beforeEgypt,even unto the bordersof Ekronnorthward,[which] is countedto the Canaanite:fivelordsof the Philistines;the Gazathites,and the Ashdothites,the Eshkalonites,the Gittites,and the Ekronites;also the Avites:4From the south,all the landof the Canaanites,and Mearahthat [is] beside the Sidonians,unto Aphek,to the bordersof the Amorites:5And the landof the Giblites,and all Lebanon,toward the sunrising,from Baalgadunder mountHermonunto the enteringinto Hamath.6All the inhabitantsof the hill countryfrom Lebanonunto Misrephothmaim,[and] all the Sidonians,them will I drive outfrom beforethe childrenof Israel:only divide thou it by lotunto the Israelitesfor an inheritance,as I have commandedthee.7Now therefore dividethis landfor an inheritanceunto the ninetribes,and the halftribeof Manasseh,

Inheritance East of Jordan

8With whom the Reubenitesand the Gaditeshave receivedtheir inheritance,which Mosesgavethem, beyondJordaneastward,[even] as Mosesthe servantof the LORDgavethem;9From Aroer,that [is] upon the bankof the riverArnon,and the citythat [is] in the midstof the river,and all the plainof Medebaunto Dibon;10And all the citiesof Sihonkingof the Amorites,which reignedin Heshbon,unto the borderof the childrenof Ammon;11And Gilead,and the borderof the Geshuritesand Maachathites,and all mountHermon,and all Bashanunto Salcah;12All the kingdomof Ogin Bashan,which reignedin Ashtarothand in Edrei,who remainedof the remnantof the giants:for these did Mosessmite,and cast them out.13Nevertheless the childrenof Israelexpellednot the Geshurites,nor the Maachathites:but the Geshuritesand the Maachathitesdwellamongthe Israelitesuntil this day.14Only unto the tribeof Levihe gavenone inheritance;the sacrificesof the LORDGodof Israelmade by fire[are] their inheritance,as he saidunto them.

15And Mosesgaveunto the tribeof the childrenof Reuben[inheritance] according to their families.16And their coastwas from Aroer,that [is] on the bankof the riverArnon,and the citythat [is] in the midstof the river,and all the plainby Medeba;17Heshbon,and all her citiesthat [are] in the plain;Dibon,and Bamothbaal,and Bethbaalmeon,18And Jahazah,and Kedemoth,and Mephaath,19And Kirjathaim,and Sibmah,and Zarethshaharin the mountof the valley,20And Bethpeor,and Ashdothpisgah,and Bethjeshimoth,21And all the citiesof the plain,and all the kingdomof Sihonkingof the Amorites,which reignedin Heshbon,whom Mosessmotewith the princesof Midian,Evi,and Rekem,and Zur,and Hur,and Reba,[which were] dukesof Sihon,dwellingin the country.

Balaam Slain

22Balaamalso the sonof Beor,the soothsayer,did the childrenof Israelslaywith the swordamong themthat were slainby them.23And the borderof the childrenof Reubenwas Jordan,and the border[thereof]. This [was] the inheritanceof the childrenof Reubenafter their families,the citiesand the villagesthereof.

24And Mosesgave[inheritance] unto the tribeof Gad,[even] unto the childrenof Gadaccording to their families.25And their coastwas Jazer,and all the citiesof Gilead,and halfthe landof the childrenof Ammon,unto Aroerthat [is] beforeRabbah;26And from Heshbonunto Ramathmizpeh,and Betonim;and from Mahanaimunto the borderof Debir;27And in the valley,Betharam,and Bethnimrah,and Succoth,and Zaphon,the restof the kingdomof Sihonkingof Heshbon,Jordanand [his] border,[even] unto the edgeof the seaof Chinnerethon the other sideJordaneastward.28This [is] the inheritanceof the childrenof Gadafter their families,the cities,and their villages.

29And Mosesgave[inheritance] unto the halftribeof Manasseh:and [this] was [the possession] of the halftribeof the childrenof Manassehby their families.30And their coastwas from Mahanaim,all Bashan,all the kingdomof Ogkingof Bashan,and all the townsof Jair,which [are] in Bashan,threescorecities:31And halfGilead,and Ashtaroth,and Edrei,citiesof the kingdomof Ogin Bashan,[were pertaining] unto the childrenof Machirthe sonof Manasseh,[even] to the one halfof the childrenof Machirby their families.

32These [are the countries] which Mosesdid distribute for inheritancein the plainsof Moab,on the other sideJordan,by Jericho,eastward.33But unto the tribeof LeviMosesgavenot [any] inheritance:the LORDGodof Israel[was] their inheritance,as he saidunto them.
