The Walls of Jericho
1Now Jerichowas straitlyshut upbecauseof the childrenof Israel:none went out,and none came in.2And the LORDsaidunto Joshua,See,I have giveninto thine handJericho, and the kingthereof, [and] the mighty menof valour.3And ye shall compassthe city, all [ye] menof war,[and] go round aboutthe cityonce. Thus shalt thou dosixdays.4And sevenpriestsshall bearbeforethe arkseventrumpetsof rams' horns:and the seventhdayye shall compassthe cityseventimes, and the priestsshall blowwith the trumpets.5And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long[blast] with the ram'shorn,[and] when ye hearthe soundof the trumpet, all the peopleshall shoutwith a greatshout;and the wallof the cityshall fall downflat, and the peopleshall ascend upevery manstraight before him.
6And Joshuathe sonof Nuncalledthe priests, and saidunto them, Take upthe arkof the covenant, and let sevenpriestsbearseventrumpetsof rams' hornsbeforethe arkof the LORD.7And he saidunto the people,Pass on,and compassthe city, and let him that is armedpass onbeforethe arkof the LORD.8And it came to pass, when Joshuahad spokenunto the people, that the sevenpriestsbearingthe seventrumpetsof rams' hornspassed onbeforethe LORD,and blewwith the trumpets:and the arkof the covenantof the LORDfollowedthem.9And the armedmen wentbeforethe prieststhat blew{08675;08628:08804} with the trumpets, and the rerewardcameafterthe ark,[the priests] going on,and blowingwith the trumpets.10And Joshuahad commandedthe people, saying,Ye shall not shout, nor make any noisewith your voice, neither shall [any] wordproceedout of your mouth, until the dayI bidyou shout;then shall ye shout.11So the arkof the LORDcompassedthe city, going about[it] once:and they cameinto the camp, and lodgedin the camp.
12And Joshuarose earlyin the morning, and the prieststook upthe arkof the LORD.13And sevenpriestsbearingseventrumpetsof rams' hornsbeforethe arkof the LORDwent oncontinually, and blewwith the trumpets:and the armed menwentbeforethem; but the rerewardcameafterthe arkof the LORD,[the priests] going on,and blowingwith the trumpets.14And the seconddaythey compassedthe cityonce, and returnedinto the camp:so they didsixdays.
15And it came to pass on the seventhday, that they rose earlyabout the dawningof the day,and compassedthe cityafter the same mannerseventimes:only on that daythey compassedthe cityseventimes.16And it came to pass at the seventhtime, when the priestsblewwith the trumpets,Joshuasaidunto the people,Shout;for the LORDhath givenyou the city.17And the cityshall be accursed,[even] it, and all that [are] therein, to the LORD:only Rahabthe harlotshall live, she and all that [are] with her in the house, because she hidthe messengersthat we sent.18And ye, in any wisekeep[yourselves] from the accursed thing, lest ye make [yourselves] accursed, when ye takeof the accursed thing, and makethe campof Israela curse, and troubleit.19But all the silver, and gold, and vesselsof brassand iron,[are] consecratedunto the LORD:they shall comeinto the treasuryof the LORD.20So the peopleshoutedwhen [the priests] blewwith the trumpets:and it came to pass, when the peopleheardthe soundof the trumpet, and the peopleshoutedwith a greatshout, that the wallfell down flat,so that the peoplewent upinto the city, every manstraight before him, and they tookthe city.21And they utterly destroyedall that [was] in the city, both manand woman, youngand old,and ox,and sheep, and ass, with the edgeof the sword.
22But Joshuahad saidunto the twomenthat had spied outthe country,Gointo the harlot'shouse, and bring outthence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye swareunto her.23And the young menthat were spieswent in,and brought outRahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought outall her kindred, and leftthem withoutthe campof Israel.24And they burntthe citywith fire, and all that [was] therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vesselsof brassand of iron, they putinto the treasuryof the houseof the LORD.25And JoshuasavedRahabthe harlotalive, and her father'shousehold, and all that she had; and she dwellethinIsrael[even] unto this day;because she hidthe messengers, which Joshuasentto spy outJericho.
26And Joshuaadjured[them] at that time, saying,Cursed[be] the manbeforethe LORD,that riseth upand buildeththis cityJericho:he shall lay the foundationthereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest[son] shall he set upthe gatesof it.27So the LORDwas with Joshua;and his famewas [noised] throughout all the country.
