Abraham, Sarah and Abimelech
1And Abrahamjourneyedfrom thence toward the southcountry, and dwelledbetween Kadeshand Shur, and sojournedin Gerar.2And AbrahamsaidofSarahhis wife,She [is] my sister:and Abimelechkingof Gerarsent, and tookSarah.3But Godcameto Abimelechin a dreamby night, and saidto him, Behold, thou [art but] a dead man,for the womanwhich thou hast taken;for she [is] a man'swife.4But Abimelechhad not come nearher: and he said,Lord, wilt thou slayalso a righteousnation?5Saidhe not unto me, She[is] my sister?and she, evensheherself said,He [is] my brother:in the integrityof my heartand innocencyof my handshave I donethis.6And Godsaidunto him in a dream,Yea,I knowthat thou didstthis in the integrityof thy heart;for I also withheldthee from sinningagainst me: therefore sufferedI thee not to touchher.7Now therefore restorethe man[his] wife;for he [is] a prophet, and he shall prayfor thee, and thou shalt live:and if thou restore[her] not, knowthou that thou shalt surelydie, thou, and all that [are] thine.
8Therefore Abimelechrose earlyin the morning, and calledall his servants, and toldall these thingsin their ears:and the menwere soreafraid.9Then AbimelechcalledAbraham, and saidunto him, What hast thou doneunto us? and what have I offendedthee, that thou hast broughton me and on my kingdoma greatsin?thou hast donedeedsunto me that ought not to be done.10And Abimelechsaidunto Abraham,Whatsawest thou, that thou hast donethis thing?11And Abrahamsaid,Because I thought,Surelythe fearof God[is] not in this place;and they will slay mefor my wife'ssake.12And yet indeed[she is] my sister;she [is] the daughterof my father, but not the daughterof my mother;and she became my wife.13And it came to pass, when Godcaused me to wanderfrom my father'shouse, that I saidunto her, This [is] thy kindnesswhich thou shalt shewunto me; at every placewhither we shall come, sayof me, He [is] my brother.14And Abimelechtooksheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave[them] unto Abraham, and restoredhim Sarahhis wife.15And Abimelechsaid,Behold, my land[is] before thee:dwellwhere it pleaseththee.16And unto Sarahhe said,Behold, I have giventhy brothera thousand[pieces] of silver:behold, he [is] to thee a coveringof the eyes, unto all that [are] with thee, and with all [other]: thus she was reproved.17So Abrahamprayedunto God:and GodhealedAbimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants;and they bare[children].18For the LORDhad fastclosed upall the wombsof the houseof Abimelech, becauseof SarahAbraham'swife.
