Peter and John Before the Council

1Andas theyspakeuntothe people,the priests,andthe captainof the temple,andthe Sadducees,came uponthem,2Being grievedthattheytaughtthe people,andpreachedthroughJesusthe resurrectionfromthe dead.3Andthey laidhandson them,andput[them] inholduntothe next day:forit wasnoweventide.4Howbeitmanyof them which heardthe wordbelieved;andthe numberof the menwasaboutfivethousand.

5Andit came to passonthe morrow,that theirrulers,andelders,andscribes,6AndAnnasthe high priest,andCaiaphas,andJohn,andAlexander,andas many aswereofthe kindredof the high priest,were gathered togetheratJerusalem.7Andwhen they had settheminthe midst,they asked,Bywhatpower,orbywhatname,haveyedonethis?8ThenPeter,filledwith the HolyGhost,saiduntothem,Ye rulersof the people,andeldersof Israel,9Ifwethis daybe examinedofthe good deed doneto the impotentman,bywhat meansheis made whole;10Be itknownunto youall,andto allthe peopleof Israel,thatbythe nameof JesusChristof Nazareth,whomyecrucified,whomGodraisedfromthe dead,[even] byhimdoththis manstand herebeforeyouwhole.11Thisisthe stonewhichwas set at noughtofyoubuilders,whichis becomethe headofthe corner.12Neitheris theresalvationinanyother:forthere isnoneothernameunderheavengivenamongmen,wherebywemustbe saved.

Peter and John Threatened, Released

13Nowwhen they sawthe boldnessof PeterandJohn,andperceivedthatthey wereunlearnedandignorantmen,they marvelled;andthey took knowledgeof them,thatthey had beenwithJesus.14Andbeholdingthe manwhich was healedstandingwiththem,they couldsaynothingagainst it.15Butwhen they had commandedthemto go asideout ofthe council,they conferredamongthemselves,16Saying,Whatshall we doto thesemen?forthatindeeda notablemiraclehath been donebythem[is] manifestto all themthat dwellin Jerusalem;andwe cannotdeny[it].17Butthatit spreadnofurtheramongthe people,let us straitlythreatenthem,that they speakhenceforthto nomaninthisname.18Andthey calledthem,and commandedthemnotto speakat allnorteachinthe nameof Jesus.19ButPeterandJohnansweredand saiduntothem,Whetherit berightin the sightof Godto hearkenunto youmore thanunto God,judge ye.20Forwecannotbutspeakthe things whichwe have seenandheard.21Sowhen they had further threatened them,they letthemgo,findingnothinghowthey might punishthem,becauseof the people:forall[men] glorifiedGodforthat which was done.22Forthe manwasabovefortyyears old,onwhomthismiracleof healingwas shewed.

23Andbeing let go,they wenttotheir own company,andreportedallthat the chief priestsandeldershad saiduntothem.24Andwhen they heard that,they lifted uptheir voicetoGodwith one accord,andsaid,Lord,thou[art] God,whichhast madeheaven,andearth,andthe sea,andallthat inthem is:

25Whobythe mouthof thyservantDavidhast said,Whydidthe heathenrage,andthe peopleimaginevain things?

26The kingsof the earthstood up,andthe rulerswere gatheredtogetheragainstthe Lord,andagainsthisChrist.

27Forofa truthagainstthyholychildJesus,whomthou hast anointed,bothHerod,andPontiusPilate,withthe Gentiles,andthe peopleof Israel,were gathered together,28For to dowhatsoeverthyhandandthycounseldetermined beforeto be done.29Andnow,Lord,beholdtheirthreatenings:andgrant untothyservants,that withallboldnessthey may speakthyword,30Bystretching forththinehandtoheal;andthat signsandwondersmay be donebythe nameof thyholychildJesus.31Andwhen theyhad prayed,the placewas shakenwherethey wereassembled together;andthey wereallfilledwith the HolyGhost,andthey spakethe wordof Godwithboldness.

32Andthe multitudeof them that believedwereof one heartandof onesoul:neithersaidany[of them] that oughtof the things which hepossessedwashis own;buttheyhadall thingscommon.33Andwith greatpowergavethe apostleswitnessof the resurrectionof the LordJesus:andgreatgracewasuponthemall.34Neitherwasthere anyamongthemthat lacked:foras many aswerepossessorsof landsorhousessold them,and broughtthe pricesof the things that were sold,35Andlaid [them] downatthe apostles'feet:anddistribution was madeunto every manaccordingashe hadneed.

36AndJoses,whobythe apostleswas surnamedBarnabas,(whichis,being interpreted,The sonof consolation,) a Levite,[and] of the countryof Cyprus,37Havingland,sold[it], and broughtthe money,andlaid[it] atthe apostles'feet.
