Paul's Greeting to Timothy

1Paul,an apostleof JesusChristbythe willof God,according tothe promiseof lifewhichis inChristJesus,
2To Timothy,[my] dearly belovedson:Grace,mercy,[and] peace,fromGodthe FatherandChristJesusourLord.
Encouragement to Be Faithful
3I thankGod,whomI servefrom[my] forefatherswithpureconscience,thatwithout ceasingI haveremembranceoftheeinmyprayersnightandday;4Greatly desiringto seethee,being mindfulof thytears,thatI may be filledwith joy;5When I callto remembrancethe unfeignedfaiththat is inthee,whichdweltfirstinthygrandmotherLois,andthymotherEunice;andI am persuadedthatintheealso.
Patience in Persecution

6WhereforeI puttheein remembrancethat thou stir upthe giftof God,whichisintheebythe putting onof myhands.7ForGodhathnotgivenusthe spiritof fear;butof power,andof love,andof a sound mind.
8Benotthouthereforeashamedof the testimonyof ourLord,norof mehisprisoner:butbe thou partaker of the afflictionsof the gospelaccording tothe powerof God;9Whohath savedus,andcalled[us] with an holycalling,notaccording toourworks,butaccording tohis ownpurposeandgrace,whichwas givenusinChristJesusbeforethe world began,10Butisnowmade manifestbythe appearingof ourSaviourJesusChrist,whohath abolisheddeath,andhath broughtlifeandimmortalityto lightthroughthe gospel:11WhereuntoIam appointeda preacher,andan apostle,anda teacherof the Gentiles.12Forthe whichcauseIalsosufferthese things:neverthelessI amnotashamed:forI knowwhomI have believed,andam persuadedthathe isableto keepthat which Ihave committed unto himagainstthatday.
Hold to Sound Teaching
13Hold fastthe formof soundwords,whichthou hast heardofme,infaithandlovewhichis inChristJesus.14That good thingwhich was committed unto theekeepbythe HolyGhostwhichdwellethinus.
15Thisthou knowest,thatallthey which are inAsiabe turned away fromme;of whomarePhygellusandHermogenes.16The Lordgivemercyunto the houseof Onesiphorus;forheoftrefreshedme,andwasnotashamedof mychain:17But,when he wasinRome,he soughtmeoutvery diligently,andfound[me].18The Lordgrantunto himthat he may findmercyofthe Lordinthatday:andin how many thingshe ministered unto meatEphesus,thouknowestvery well.
