Amaziah's Good Reign in Judah
(2 Chronicles 25:1-4)
1In the secondyearof Joashsonof Jehoahazkingof IsraelreignedAmaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judah.2He was twentyand fiveyearsoldwhen he began to reign,and reignedtwentyand nineyearsin Jerusalem.And his mother'sname[was] Jehoaddanof Jerusalem.3And he did[that which was] rightin the sightof the LORD,yetnot like Davidhis father:he didaccording to all things as Joashhis fatherdid.4Howbeit the high placeswere not taken away:as yetthe peopledid sacrificeand burnt incenseon the high places.5And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdomwas confirmedin his hand,that he slewhis servantswhich had slainthe kinghis father.6But the childrenof the murderershe slewnot: according unto that which is writtenin the bookof the lawof Moses,wherein the LORDcommanded,saying,The fathersshall not be put to deathfor the children,nor the childrenbe put to deathfor the fathers;but every manshall be put to deathfor his own sin.
7He slewof Edomin the valleyof salttenthousand,and tookSelahby war,and calledthe nameof it Joktheelunto this day.
8Then Amaziahsentmessengersto Jehoash,the sonof Jehoahazsonof Jehu,kingof Israel,saying,Come,let us lookone another in the face.9And Jehoashthe kingof Israelsentto Amaziahkingof Judah,saying,The thistlethat [was] in Lebanonsentto the cedarthat [was] in Lebanon,saying,Givethy daughterto my sonto wife:and there passedby a wildbeastthat [was] in Lebanon,and trode downthe thistle.10Thou hast indeedsmittenEdom,and thine hearthath lifted thee up:glory[of this], and tarryat home:for why shouldest thou meddleto [thy] hurt,that thou shouldest fall,[even] thou, and Judahwith thee?
11But Amaziahwould not hear.Therefore Jehoashkingof Israelwent up;and he and Amaziahkingof Judahlookedone another in the faceat Bethshemesh,which [belongeth] to Judah.12And Judahwas put to the worsebeforeIsrael;and they fledevery manto their tents.13And Jehoashkingof IsraeltookAmaziahkingof Judah,the sonof Jehoashthe sonof Ahaziah,at Bethshemesh,and cameto Jerusalem,and brake downthe wallof Jerusalemfrom the gateof Ephraimunto the cornergate,fourhundredcubits.14And he tookall the goldand silver,and all the vesselsthat were foundin the houseof the LORD,and in the treasuresof the king'shouse,and hostages,and returnedto Samaria.
Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash in Israel
15Now the restof the actsof Jehoashwhich he did,and his might,and how he foughtwith Amaziahkingof Judah,[are] they not writtenin the bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Israel?16And Jehoashsleptwith his fathers,and was buriedin Samariawith the kingsof Israel;and Jeroboamhis sonreignedin his stead.
Uzziah Succeeds Amaziah in Judah
(2 Chronicles 26:1-5)
17And Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judahlivedafterthe deathof Jehoashsonof Jehoahazkingof Israelfifteenyears.18And the restof the actsof Amaziah,[are] they not writtenin the bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Judah?19Now they madea conspiracyagainst him in Jerusalem:and he fledto Lachish;but they sentafterhim to Lachish,and slewhim there.20And they broughthim on horses:and he was buriedat Jerusalemwith his fathersin the cityof David.21And all the peopleof JudahtookAzariah,which [was] sixteenyearsold,and made him kinginstead of his fatherAmaziah.22He builtElath,and restoredit to Judah,afterthat the kingsleptwith his fathers.
Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel
23In the fifteenthyearof Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof JudahJeroboamthe sonof Joashkingof Israelbegan to reignin Samaria,[and reigned] fortyand oneyears.24And he did[that which was] evilin the sightof the LORD:he departednot from all the sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,who made Israelto sin.25He restoredthe coastof Israelfrom the enteringof Hamathunto the seaof the plain,according to the wordof the LORDGodof Israel,which he spakeby the handof his servantJonah,the sonof Amittai,the prophet,which [was] of Gathhepher.26For the LORDsawthe afflictionof Israel,[that it was] verybitter:for [there was] notany shut up,nor any left,nor any helperfor Israel.27And the LORDsaidnot that he would blot outthe nameof Israelfrom under heaven:but he savedthem by the handof Jeroboamthe sonof Joash.
28Now the restof the actsof Jeroboam,and all that he did,and his might,how he warred,and how he recoveredDamascus,and Hamath,[which belonged] to Judah,for Israel,are they not writtenin the bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Israel?29And Jeroboamsleptwith his fathers,[even] with the kingsof Israel;and Zachariahhis sonreignedin his stead.
