God's Covenant with Solomon

(2 Chronicles 7:11-22)

1And it came to pass, when Solomonhad finishedthe buildingof the houseof the LORD,and the king'shouse,and all Solomon'sdesirewhich he was pleasedto do,2That the LORDappearedto Solomonthe second time,as he had appearedunto him at Gibeon.3And the LORDsaidunto him, I have heardthy prayerand thy supplication,that thou hast madebeforeme: I have hallowedthis house,which thou hast built,to putmy namethere forever;and mine eyesand mine heartshall be there perpetually.4And if thou wilt walkbeforeme, as Davidthy fatherwalked,in integrityof heart,and in uprightness,to doaccording to all that I have commandedthee, [and] wilt keepmy statutesand my judgments:5Then I will establishthe throneof thy kingdomupon Israelfor ever,as I promisedto Davidthy father,saying,There shall not failthee a manupon the throneof Israel.

6[But] if ye shall at allturnfrom followingme, ye or your children,and will not keepmy commandments[and] my statuteswhich I have setbeforeyou, but goand serveothergods,and worshipthem:7Then will I cut offIsraeloutof the landwhich I have giventhem; and this house,which I have hallowedfor my name,will I cast outof my sight;and Israelshall be a proverband a bywordamong all people:8And at this house,[which] is high,every one that passethby it shall be astonished,and shall hiss;and they shall say,Why hath the LORDdonethus unto this land,and to this house?9And they shall answer,Because they forsookthe LORDtheir God,who brought forththeir fathersout of the landof Egypt,and have taken holdupon othergods,and have worshippedthem, and servedthem: therefore hath the LORDbroughtupon them all this evil.

Cities Given to Hiram

10And it came to pass at the endof twentyyears,when Solomonhad builtthe twohouses,the houseof the LORD,and the king'shouse,11([Now] Hiramthe kingof Tyrehad furnishedSolomonwith cedartreesand firtrees,and with gold,according to all his desire,) that thenkingSolomongaveHiramtwentycitiesin the landof Galilee.12And Hiramcame outfrom Tyreto seethe citieswhich Solomonhad givenhim; and they pleasedhim not.13And he said,What cities[are] these which thou hast givenme, my brother?And he calledthem the landof Cabulunto this day.14And Hiramsentto the kingsixscoretalentsof gold.

Solomon's Numerous Achievements

(2 Chronicles 8:1-18)

15And this [is] the reasonof the levywhich kingSolomonraised;for to buildthe houseof the LORD,and his own house,and Millo,and the wallof Jerusalem,and Hazor,and Megiddo,and Gezer.16[For] Pharaohkingof Egypthad gone up,and takenGezer,and burntit with fire,and slainthe Canaanitesthat dweltin the city,and givenit [for] a presentunto his daughter,Solomon'swife.17And SolomonbuiltGezer,and Bethhoronthe nether,18And Baalath,and Tadmorin the wilderness,in the land,19And all the citiesof storethat Solomonhad, and citiesfor his chariots,and citiesfor his horsemen,and thatwhich Solomondesiredto buildin Jerusalem,and in Lebanon,and in all the landof his dominion.20[And] all the people[that were] leftof the Amorites,Hittites,Perizzites,Hivites,and Jebusites,which [were] not of the childrenof Israel,21Their childrenthat were leftafterthem in the land,whom the childrenof Israelalso were not ableutterly to destroy,upon those did Solomonlevya tributeof bondserviceunto this day.22But of the childrenof Israeldid Solomonmakeno bondmen:but they [were] menof war,and his servants,and his princes,and his captains,and rulersof his chariots,and his horsemen.

23These [were] the chiefof the officersthat [were] over Solomon'swork,fivehundredand fifty,which bare ruleover the peoplethat wroughtin the work.

24But Pharaoh'sdaughtercame upout of the cityof Davidunto her housewhich [Solomon] had builtfor her: then did he buildMillo.

25And threetimesin a yeardid Solomonofferburnt offeringsand peace offeringsupon the altarwhich he builtunto the LORD,and he burnt incenseupon the altarthat [was] beforethe LORD.So he finishedthe house.

26And kingSolomonmadea navy of shipsin Eziongeber,which [is] beside Eloth,on the shoreof the Redsea,in the landof Edom.27And Hiramsentin the navyhis servants,shipmenthat had knowledgeof the sea,with the servantsof Solomon.28And they cameto Ophir,and fetchedfrom thence gold,fourhundredand twentytalents,and brought[it] to kingSolomon.
