Strong's Lexicon Móusés: Moses Original Word:Μωϋσῆς Part of Speech:Noun, Masculine Transliteration:Móusés Pronunciation:mo-oo-sace' Phonetic Spelling:(moce-yoos') Definition:Moses Meaning:Moses; met: the books of Moses, the Pentateuch. Word Origin:Derived from the Hebrew name מֹשֶׁה (Mosheh) Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries:H4872 - מֹשֶׁה (Mosheh) Usage:Móusés refers to the central figure in the Old Testament who led the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage and received the Law from God on Mount Sinai. He is a prophet, lawgiver, and leader, often associated with the Torah or Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible traditionally attributed to him. Cultural and Historical Background:Moses is a pivotal figure in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. In the biblical narrative, he is born during a time of Hebrew enslavement in Egypt. Rescued by Pharaoh's daughter, he is raised in the Egyptian court but later flees to Midian after killing an Egyptian taskmaster. God calls him from a burning bush to deliver the Israelites. Moses performs miracles, leads the Exodus, and receives the Ten Commandments. His life and leadership are foundational to the identity and faith of the Israelite people.
