Watchmen Distinguished in Time

One of the 100 best novels of the past century.

Comic-book readers often feel outside scorn for their beloved medium. It's rare when a comic earns critical mainstream recognition, butWatchmen is no ordinary comic. The October 24 issue ofTime magazine features a list of the top 100 novels since 1923. The only graphic novel to make the list is Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons'Watchmen.

Book critics Lev Grossman and Richard Lacayo created the list, which includes J.D. Salinger'sCatcher in the Rye and Harper Lee'sTo Kill a Mockingbird.

Grossman callsWatchmen "A work of ruthless psychological realism."

Time's top 100 list comes on the heels of the newly-releasedWatchmen: The Absolute Edition, now available in stores.
