英エジンバラの「レイプ被害者緊急避難センター」が、国のサービス基準に不適格であるとして、レイプ被害者に案内される施設リストから除外された。
経緯はこうだ。
国の多様性促進政策を反映し、スコットランドのレイプ・クライシス・ネットワークは「トランスジェンダーを活用すべし」という方針を出している。
そのような動きの中で、2021年にエジンバラ・レイプ被害者緊急避難センター（以下ERCC）のCEOとしてトランス女性が着任した。
彼女はLGBT職員を積極採用し、その中に「ノンバイナリー」（男でも女でもないという性自認を持つ）の職員がいた。
ある日、ERCCに駆け込んだきたレイプ被害者が「女性職員に担当されたい」と希望を述べた。
希望を聞いたERCCの女性職員は、当該被害者を担当する予定だったノンバイナリー職員に「あなたは女性か？」と問うた。
ノンバイナリー職員は「自分は男でも女でもない」と応える。女性職員は「いや実際はどっちなんだ」と更に聞く。
このやりとりをみたトランスジェンダーCEOが、その女性職員を懲戒手続きにかけ、クビにした。
もともと当該女性職員をトランスフォビア（トランス嫌い）だと思って毛嫌いしていたらしい。
これが不当だと裁判になり、CEOは負けて辞任に追い込まれた。
弱者とされてきた人々が、弱者マインドのままで権力を持ってしまった事例だと思う。
本件で一番迷惑を被っているのは、緊急避難先を失ったレイプ被害者と、他のトランスジェンダー及びノンバイナリーの人々だろう。
トランスびいきの私でも、このニュースを読んだときは「この施設でトランスやノンバイナリーの性自認を受け入れるのは難しいだろう」と思ってしまった。
レイプ緊急避難センターが「シス女性に限る」「性別は明確に」と言い出したら、医療機関も、介護施設も、はたまた衣料品店も追随するかもしれない。
トランス女性はシス女性にとって有害なのだろうか。有害な場面があったとして、それは彼らの排除を正当化するほどのものなのだろうか。

要するにスペースだと盲目の人が使う点字ディスプレイに無駄なスペースを使ってしまうのでタブの方が良いという理屈だ。さらにタブだと見る人によって幅を変えられるので盲目じゃなくて弱視の人や老眼の人にもアクセシブルであるとそういう理屈だ。
そのうちスペースを使っているだけで差別主義者呼ばわりされることだろう。
