「昨日の外国人特派員協会での記者会見での私の発言内容について、女性蔑視とのご指摘をいただいています。私がお伝えしたかったのは『国民民主党の政策は女性にとっても良い政策だと考えていますが、実際には女性に届いていない実状があり、それについて難しさを感じています』でした」「それが、会見では『it’s very difficult to understand for them.』と言ってしまいましたが、本来は『it’s very difficult to deliver to them.』というような表現を使うべきでした」
「英語が未熟なため、拙い表現をしてしまったことを反省しています。決して女性蔑視をするつもりはありませんでした。女性の方々に支持が広がっていないのは、政策をちゃんと伝え切れていない私たちの問題です。本当に申し訳ございません」
「女性が、政策の良さを理解するのがたいへん難しい」から、「（私たちが）女性層に政策の良さを伝えることが大変難しい」という意味になる。
国民民主の政策を、幅広い層に伝えるように努力するというのが本来の意図であると読める。
私見では、平易な英文だから大丈夫と、通訳を通さずに原稿を起こしたため起きた誤記に見える。

1990年（※正確には2020年）9月、わが党が設立された当初から、そしてそれ以来、残念ながら私たちはまだ女性からの人気を得ていません。
多くの人は、私たちの言っていることはとても複雑で、理解するのがとても難しいと言う。
しかし、昨年の総選挙での、（年収の壁を）103万から178万に増やす政策は、たいへんわかりやすいです（文章不全のため意訳）。
ですから、私たちの政策は男性だけでなく女性にとっても良いものだと思いますが、女性には非常にわかりにくいのだと思います。
同時に、私たちの政策は若い世代にとって良いものですが、高齢者にとっても非常に良い政策です。
だから私たちは何度も説明し、私たちの政策は女性や高齢者にとっても良いものであることを伝えようとしてきましたが、今のところ女性や高齢者の支持を得ることはできていません。
